    "New" DIPA Sunday
    [IMG]
I am stretching the rules a bit. I actually had this for the first time Friday night when I went to the brewery. This was after 2… make that 4, bourbon barrel beers. I knew it was good, so I brought a howler home to give it the review it deserved. I present, "Waka Waka, Waka"

A - Mostly clear, copper-orange pour that doesnt yield a large head, but retains a solid frothy, film like (think Guinness) layer on top that leaves lacing behind like it's going out of style.

S - Lots of malt. Very bready, like homemade dough. Some tropical fruits. Not real in your face hops, but there does seem to be some resinous pine there too.

T - I would say it is one of the more malt forward DIPAs I have had. There is still plenty of hops to balance it out on the back side. Very citrusy and tropical, but not just the typical grapefruit/pineapple/orange/lemon. Very juicy, and works very well with the strong malt base. Some bitterness surfaces in the middle to remind you it's an IPA, along with a little bit of a peppery kick, then is calmed back down by a subtle caramel sweetness like a mother gently rocking her baby to sleep. Finish is as smooth as a dolphins ass.

F - Very creamy. I can't overstate that aspect. The only other DIPA that I have had with this mouthfeel is Lawson's SoS. Very surprising given the predominantly clear appearance. Carbonation is on the lower side, which also makes me wonder where the nitro-like feel comes from.

O - Who said Jackie O's couldn't do non-barrel aged? Seriously? I have actually never heard that... In all actual seriousness, this is one of my top 3 or 4 beers from them. Incredibly smooth, great variety of flavors that play well with each other. Alcohol is slighy noticeable, and it is probably a hair on the malty side (for majority, not me) but those are my nitpicking items. Now I will be dreaming of the day they tweet that they are bottling/canning Waka.

Spent the late morning at my grandmother's 93rd b-day brunch overlooking the Marin County/SF Bay...grey and rainy out but was enjoyable none the less.
Came home to some golf on the tube and this in my glass

Everything about this beer is great.
Nice dark color, great prunish/raisin nose with a tad of sweetness and an enjoyable taste. I don't pick up any of the barrel but I think, if anything else, the barrel takes some of the Quad off, which I rather like. I don't dislike quads by any means, but this really rounds out the edges.
All in all, I'm glad @totalbangover threw this in my box and another beer that proves that Michigan knows how to brew beer.

    Happy New IPA Sunday

I believe I was around those first few months this thread started. Did a nice little hike today, sunny upper 50s. Finally a new brew for me here in UT. Saw this one at Harmon's, picked it up. A thirst quencher, but most likely will not buy again. Funny thing is I've had another from this brewery same style, higher ABV and I did not care too much for that one either, but hey, it's a new brew, cool.

New American Blonde Ale Sunday (week 520)

Good afternoon fellow NBSers from on the ridge in a snowy Mid Hud Val NY. Messy morning at work following an excellent night of enjoying Lawson's Sip Of Sunshine, Nugget Nectar, and Rushing Duck Divided by Zero with @doomXsaloon, and the music of High On Fire, Orchid, and Yob as background. Needed less of an attack mode beer today, and this Blonde Ale, courtesy of @Premo88, fits the bill nicely. It's not over the top in any way, tasty and enjoyable, and hits the spot.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass on this non-mathematically correct 10th Anniversary of NBS. Cheers!

    hopslam, Hopslam, HOPSLAM!
The highly lauded brew has hit Upstate NY and is worthy of the hype. There aren't many 10%+ ABV Double/Imperial IPA's where I can enjoy two (or more) without tiring of its aroma/flavor profile...nicely executed by Bell's and well worth the wait!

    New Am. Stout Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
and Happy Anniversary. Special thanks to present and past forum instigators @cavedave @utopiajane @malty @mattcrill. Also a good day to note the final package of NBS BIF #1 and all the great fun that was. I think @beertunes got that one rolling, so thanks there too (I hope I got that right, if not, my bad and credit due to where it belongs).
We are continuing with a slightly mild winter here in SCMN, but we've earned it after 3 of last 4 have been much worse than normal. It's hard to know normal when in abnormal for so long.
I'm continuing with beers from NBS BIF #1 courtesy of @larryi86. Today a nice coffee stout.

    Okay, smartass...:wink::grinning::grinning:

Now 10 can wait while I take care of this one and deny you the satisfaction of being correct..:grinning::grinning:..

    Westmalle Trappist Ale Tripel.

A: Pours a hazy dark gold color with a very active three finger head of big bubbles that soon disappear.

S: The nose is somewhat weak, but that of fresh citrus fruit and cloves.

T: A very appealing mix of citrus, banana (which seems to be a reoccurring theme today), sweet honey, and hops. The 9.5%ABV is surprisingly almost nonexistent, save for a slight warming on the finish.

F: This one feels a bit lighter but still features enough body to satisfy, along with pretty active carbonation.

O: Delicious. A beautifully crafted balance of sweet and bitter. I'm truly enjoying this glass right now, and it's getting even better as it warms up just a touch. I'll be back to this one again for sure.

    New Imperial Russian Stout Sunday!
Deep pitch black body and a dark tan head. Leaving quite a bit of lacing in the glass.
Big aromas of licorice, espresso, char and dark roasted malts.
Tastes of espresso, bittersweet chocolate, anise (not as much as that Belgo Anise release from 2011 thank God!)
Easy drinking IRS and a big winner from Stone!

    Cheers!

    New BIF Red Ale Sunday!

My Work day Sucked! I hate people, good thing I love beer!

This brew was graciously sent to me by @2beerdogs for this beer, thank you!

Let's get down to what really Matters! My thoughts on this brew!

First off I love Red/Amber Ales and Lagers. Something about Carbonated Caramel sweetness and Hops...mmm. This brew pours Gorgeous! Nice Deep Amber body with a nice white soapy head! This brew looks so good in a glass! I wonder how this brew smells... First whiff brings you in with open arms of Caramel Richness with the backend of hints of citric grapefruit. No alcohol notes no off aromas. Very pleasant. Now I gird my loins and go in for the Kill! This flavor explodes with caramel sweetness and citric tones. Almost orange juice quality. There's a small hint of pineapple tartness before the finish. There's an aftertaste of resinous and spicy hops...maybe Columbus hops? This finishes a bit watery and dry, not as bitter as some in its style. That's a good thing for me. Most of these Red/Amber Ales come off too bitter to balance the rich malt Sweetness/Body. The feel on this brew is medium bodied with Cola like Carbonation.

Overall: This brew is a great example of the Style. Not Syrupy nor is it Light. It's...just right! The cola-esque carbonation helps the flavors to just explode all over the place. The flavors are on time and enjoyable. It's not the most "Complex" beer at all. Yet, if you want to relax with Malt and Hops making simple love on your palate..this is a goto. I really dig this beer. If Bootlegger's distributed here, this would be in heavy rotation in my fridge! Plus this resinous hop aftertaste is out of this world! The watery finish acts as a refresher and not as a negative attribute. This brew is recommended!

    Grade: A+

Thank You @2beerdogs This made my Sunday!

Cheers my fellow New Beer Sunday Crew!

No, haven't tried the Tripel Karmeliet yet, still pretty new to the import section and I haven't run across it yet. I'll keep an eye out for that one, the reviews sound great.
