Haha yeah, and at least they have an excuse for being stupid enough to pay that much! I was pounding Busch Lights into my early 20s...

But you have to get to the brewery (or a place to buy it).... in Vermont. Thats a tank of gas and a day of my life in a car. Plus, a 4 pack from VT would be more expensive than just buying the same 4 pack in the city when you factor everything in. I can't afford to drive to VT for beer but I can afford to overpay in NYC (if i wanted to)

Beer is meant to be enjoyed - I agree - but I have to physically have the beer to enjoy it.

I think we approach beer differently. I think you view it as a community, hobby and team sport and I sorta just want the good stuff

ha - probably right. I just think people have to be realistic about the cost and time of going to VT or acquiring the beer needed to get HT in a trade. When you work long hours, have small children and have never had the mythical Heady Topper you might start thinking $12.50 for a can you pick up in your home city ain't such a bad deal

The time and such isn't the point. The point is, people take advantage of the situation and overcharge at ridiculous numbers. While I can't discount the time it takes to head to the brewery if you aren't close, it doesn't make it right to charge that much. As I always say, to each their own. But if you want to let someone make that much money off you , then go ahead. I think with logic and reasoning. I can't find any logic or reason to pay anyone that much when I can trade for it much easier and it costs far less. Sure, $12.50 doesn't sound bad. But when you realize it only costs $3-$5 a can, then you start to wonder. But hey, that's me.

I know what supply and demand is. I also know when a price goes past that point. If you want to pay someone 6 times over what a product costs, be my guest. It is nice having someone do me and my buddy a solid by picking us up a bunch of Vermont goodies. Guess I don't have to go the other route huh?

Cool - you have someone who hooks you up. Thats awesome. What about the people who don't? They should just go without? I just don't think its evil or stupid to pay a premium for something that saves you time and money.

How much profit is someone making from charging $12.50/can? Assume $16/4-pack so $4/beer in VT. Profit so far is $8.50. Let's say you go to waterbury to pick up this beer - you are driving 10+ hours roundtrip and 650 miles. Gas cost, time cost and maybe lodging costs trims a couple bucks off your profit.

What are you left making on your each can? Maybe $5? Maybe less? Nobody is getting rich running HT from VT to NYC. This isn't a Pablo Escobar enterprise.

I just continue to be surprised that people are looked down upon for spending their hard earned money getting the beer they want. Seems like the people who object the most are the ones who already have access to the product. Why do you even care? You get it at cost - good for you.

It sucks, but I can see why it happens. Nobody is forced to buy the beer at these prices - this isn't bread, water, gas etc. Let the people that want to pay that much, do so (and yeah TBH I can see why someone could be tempted to shell out $10-15 to try something with that kind of reputation, rather than go through the ballache of trading or driving). If enough will pay, then it will continue. If people won't pay, then it'll stop.

I have not ever paid anyone for beer on ebay, CL, beercellar etc - but that's my choice. I'm not going to judge someone that feels differently.

I don't look down on anyone that pays that money for beer. I shun the person who sells beer for that price. I don't ever judge someone for what they would buy or trade for a beer. But to sell it is where my problem lies. Especially for that kind of profit. I apologize if I offended anyone when discussing the cost. That wasn't my intent.

I agree, these people are definitely cynical opportunists. But you can argue that the people buying are equally to blame. If there's no buyer then there's no seller.

It's nice to know someone on this site is thinking of me enough to reference my quotes in all their posts. FYI, supply and demand is a simple idea to comprehend. With dealing with the legality of what these black market sellers are doing, there is none. Alchemist is not licensed in NY. Therefore people shouldn't be selling them there in the first place. Case and point.

Exactly, and that is the reality of the free marketplace. Price needs to rise, otherwise we are left with the current mayhem of tons of people swarming stores to purchase an limited product. To deny that is foolish. Some people have thin skins.
