My bottle date is 01/20/15. Hardly a month old

My bottles that I got today are dated 1/9. This in itself is not that big of a deal, the problem is that the distributor has had them for weeks and would not release them until today. Thereby purposefully causing the product to be of a lesser quality that it could be. Which, is bullshit IMO.

Hit NC today. I passed on it at $20.99. Got NoDa Hop Cakes though!
Good points on freshness. Distributor makes poor decision but a month old is still in its prime.

I do find it ironic that people complain about $20 six packs of Hopslam (which IMO is an elite beer), but then have no problem paying $8-10 for a bomber of the newest mediocre IPA hitting the shelves.

I bought a 6 this afternoon, also some fresh Grapefruit Sculpin. Not even a contest head to head The Grapefruit Sculpin is far better, imo of course, the Slam a bit too malty, perhaps the honey makes it a bit to sweet up front. Where's the fruit to this as it used to be? An ok beer, at this price point unacceptable for me, but that only my opinion. There is so little nose to this too, but it's been like this for 3 years now or so, my first bottle forever ago exploded on the nose. This is the beer which opened up a new world for me many years ago, I'm quite sure it's changed and not my palate. I don't like the Kbs and or BCBS has changed threads, I don't think they change a bit, this one has been very consistent too for the last 3-4 years, but somewhere it has changed from what it was.

I agree. I remember having my first about 4-5 years ago. And it wowed me with the nose and taste, then I missed it for two years, got some last year and it wasn't what I remembered and I'm drinking one right now that is even more disappointing than last years. This year has no nose and is too malty and wayyy too dry (too much honey maybe?). Maybe it's just me, but I would rather have a fresh Jade any day.

whats with this "its hype therefore I must not like it" train going on... Hopslam garnered its reputation because its damn good. I don't understand how you can be one who has the motivations to find seek out and drop 20 on a brew like Hopslam and then drink it and talk about how mediocre it is...

I quite enjoyed mine last night. This release comes only once a year. Is it the best ipa ever? No. Is it really good? Yes. Is it expensive...sure, but when you compare it to other high content IPas, it's not completely unreasonable. Devil dancer sells got $19.99 a 4 pack, dogfish 120 sells for $9.99 a bottle. Hopslam is better then both of those beers (IMO).

Since it's a once a year thing, I don't see why as a beer drinker you woudlnt buy it, unless you just hate IPas.

$4 a beer is still a hellava lot cheaper then most craft beer bars charge for their in house ipa.

I got some last night. 1/20 on the bottle. That's not bad if you ask me. I don't understand why people complain. Just drink your beer.

Mendez Fuel posted that they got some in on their facebook. I hadn't seen any Hopslam at the Total Wines down south over the past few weeks so I'm wondering if this is week they get some. May go on Friday, chance its already gone by then.

Maybe someone sought it out and dropped the money on it because it's so highly rated and then didn't think it lived up to the rating or the price? Is that really that hard to understand?

I'm not saying anything about its quality one way or the other, but are we not allowed to say a beer is mediocre just because it has a good reputation?

Total Wine in Kendall said they will have Hopslam 6-packs tomorrow. Limit 1 pack per person. Just a friendly heads up.

Of course you're "allowed" to make any claims you want, my point is that some assessments seem to be based at least partially on being contrary to popular opinion.

yeah, they told me it was available today. went in to store and of course a manager told me tomorrow morning. Called the pinecrest one and they told me tomorrow as well, didnt get a time but assume its the morning. I also bought a bottle of Cigar Citys Evander. I didnt really look at the bottle and Total Wines description listed it as a Brown Ale so I bought it. Looked at the bottle in the car and saw it was a belgian white with spices lol. guess they never changed the description for a different batch.
