No, it's a blend of 60% barrel aged and 40% fresh.

That is high for a Smokestack. The only ones I remember being that dear (but worth it IMHO) were the Lovechilds...

its the second thing, if you read close, it was still blended this year.

Sorry, didn't see that this was already addressed.

Legally, we don't have any influence over pricing at the retail level, but I would say that's within the average range for a Smokestack Series Limited Release bottle.

Love Childs typically run $18-ish at retail around the KC area (unless you buy it at Costco where it is $14), so Imperial Stout X is still cheaper than that. IIRC, the other limited Smokestacks (Imp Stout, Saison-Brett, Rye-on-Rye, BBQ) typically are about $12-13 retail around KC, but I've certainly seen $14 as well depending on the store.

Agreed. We managed to get a keg at my office (we're an ad agency) and while I really liked it last year, I was blown away by this year's. Not sure if it's the beer that's changed or my palate. But I thought the balance of barrel to fresh was spot on. Just enough whisky and oak characteristic to complement the notes of char and dark fruit.

All Smokestack Series Limited Release beers (BBQ, Saison-Brett, Rye-on-Rye, Imperial Stout X) are sold to our distributors on the same pricing tier. Love Child releases are sold at a higher "sour pricing" tier.

I'm so out of touch I probably haven't noticed the last 2 price increases...

I kinda figured that was the case. I wonder if some retailers are taking advantage of this being a new item.

In my experience the Lovechild's (and any other sour Boulevard for that matter) should all be $20+, the other limited release Smokestack beers---Saison-Brett, Imperial Stout, Bourbon Barrel Quad, Rye-on-Rye---should be between $12.99-$15.99, and every other Smokestack should be $8.99-$10.99.

Had it last night, and I downed it in 30 minutes. Very nice job crafting this beer. Most (all) of you are really going to enjoy this one.

Man, how do you get such great deals when the beers are having to be imported to Antarctica?
