I just came home with a case of Smuttynose Baltic porter. It was $49.99{edit, sorry thats $59.99} for a case of four packs. The other week I bought a case of Ballast Point Victory at sea for $50 a case of six packs. I have seen Sorachi Ace for under $50 a case in this format.......All of these are $8-$10+ each in large format. PBC has made this change with Shackamaxamum a few years ago and really lowered the price.

Are the breweries catching on to the better package of a 12oz bottle or are these isolated cases?

What else have you seen change from large format only to 12oz and get much better price wise?

Victory......can you say Mad Kings six packs this summer?

    Enjoy

Lawson's Sip of Sunshine was a $9 bomber a few months ago, now it is about half the price in four packs of 16 oz. cans for $13.99. Cheers to $15 six packs of Victory at Sea also!

Wow - $59.99 for a case of Smutty BP. That's awesome!

Definitely agree, the victory at sea 6-pack is a steal!

Once we start seeing 4 packs, I guarantee a case in RI won't go for less than $70-$80 and we're 3 hours from the brewery.

Smuttynose also did this for Really Old Brown Dog. Got that, the Baltic Porter (drinking one now, actually) and Victory at Sea recently. I think a few other breweries have done this recently but I can't think of any.
    Edit: Sone Enjoy By!

Yep, as the OP suggests, Sorachi Ace 4-pk for $9.99 - same price as the bomber. Way better deal.

Wow- first Enjoy By, and now Smutty Baltic Porter. These will definitely go from an occasional purchase to more frequent ones for me.

Can't wait for 12oz Enjoy By! I'm already really digging Cali-belgique and arrogant bastard in that format.

It comes in 4-packs?! I'm getting one. #LOTR

The smart ones are, I would think. But not enough are doing it at this point.

This is definitely a growing trend. I've heard of quite a few beers and breweries going this route lately. Love it. It also makes sense because you can typically buy singles at bottle shops and big box places, so it still allows you to try it without buying 4. Then when you find out it's good, boom, 4 pack. The cost must make sense for brewers and they think consumers prefer - which they certainly should.

12oz bottles and 4packs both work better then bombers in my book. With so many great breweries/beers to choose from, there isn't need for expensive bombers to enjoy great beers. Always tickers and others willing to pay, but as craft has exploded my guess is a lot of the market doesn't want to pay twice as much for some beer in bomber per oz when they can pick up a 4 or 6 pack or single 12oz for cheaper

I was looking forward to reporting the Stone Enjoy By but that's apparently old news already  lol

Is Enjoy By going to be 4- or 6-packs?
My gut says 4, but my gut is also full of beer and might not be remembering right

I am hoping Ale Smith starts selling Speedway in 12oz. I never drink mine because I end up getting hammered every time I pop one open.

Yup, the beer retailers near me 'like' to price 4-packs really high.:slight_frown:

Consequently I am not a fan of the 4-pack format.

    Cheers

Weyerbacher is putting Tiny into 12 oz bottles. Tiny 12 oz bottles are replacing Old Heathen in Weyerbacher's "Big Beer" sampler as well.
