Looking for a little funny on this Friday after a long week. What's the biggest, worst, or most hilarious mistake you've made in regards to beer? Drinking, purchasing, storing, trading away?

I made my biggest one years ago, just as I was getting into the good stuff. I was staying in Shanty Creek in Bellaire, MI with my in-laws for a week-long summertime vacation. Up till then, my experience with beer was limited to AALs, Guinness, Blue Moon, and Bell's Oberon.

We stopped at Short's there, where I had my first flight. Pretty sure it was Soft Parade, Chocolate Wheat, PB&J stout, and a couple others I can't recall. Fell in love with Short's on the spot, and insisted we come back later that week.

Now, based on previous experience with beers in the 4-5% ABV range, I didn't think a fruity beer like Soft Parade would be any different. So when we went back to the brewpub, I pounded down a couple pints without a thought, and drank whatever my wife has ordered (she didn't like whatever it was). I was done in by a short time frame, being beer greedy, and a low tolerance.

Long story short, I ended up hurling over the rail of the balcony of the vacation home in the middle of a conversation with my father-in-law because I was a newbie who didn't know ABV went over 5%.

Biggest mistake: A few years ago I was traveling with my better half and saw these beers called Jester King and thought "uh.... Looks weird, let's pass on this".

So to date my mistake was not buying Jester King in abundance when I had the chance.

My biggest beer mistake was back in the late 70's I was visiting in Cincinnati and I bought a case of Iron City. Damn, I wish I had that $5 back! That stuff was Nasty!

So far? Buying a 12-pack of something I'd never tried before (Yuengling Black & Tan.)

No disastrous consequences or anything, and they were on sale so I didn't even blow a lot of money... so overall a pretty minor mistake. I just ended up not liking them nearly as much as I thought I would (first bottle was pretty nice, but for some reason none of the rest seemed as good) and got pretty tired of drinking them long before the pack was empty. I ended up pawning off some of the last bottles on family members--thankfully it turned out my sister really likes them, so it made a good Christmas present. XD

But yeah, will have to make sure I like something enough to drink a lot of it before I buy a full 12-pack of any one beer in the future. Especially since most of the 12-packs out there cost a whole lot more than $8.99! XD

I told myself the same thing, never drainpour. Although I broke it a few days ago with an Atwater Grand Circus IPA. I wanted something hoppy but there wasn't anything to it. Just... watery, which kills me say.

Many years ago my poor friends and I jumped into home brewing. We spent a lot of money, for us, buying grolsch bottles to save us capping time and for a bigger serving. After brewing and bottling a batch we waited for the date to approach when we could pound our latest creation. When the day came we uncapped our beers and we were greeted with the sound of silence. No beautiful sound of gas being released. The whole batch was flat.

Being poor college aged kids we improvised. Off to the store for a case of the beast. If I have to explain what that is then you have never been poor enough to have to buy it. We proceeded to mix our flat home brew half and half with beasts. It was awful but we powered through it and finished all of the beast and the flat home brew. We did not have a good Sunday.

Oh, I've been there, and remember those days fondly. Beast and Natty Ice for the boys, Boones Farm for the gals. If you had some extra scratch, you went premium with Red Dog.

We always had to have a bottle of Boone's for all the guys. At some point in the night someone would call it and we would have to pound our bottle.

This reminds me of beer mistake number 2. Random Mickey's in the beer cooler. Select a beer by blindly sticking a finger in the cooler and grab first beer it touches. If it was an old Mickey's hand grenade you had to slam it. God help you if you hit two grenades in a row.

Barfing up a 1/2 bucket of Pilsner Urequell and home made cognac, what a waste.

it's hard not to sometimes ... and I try not to be the drainpour **** -- if others want to pour their beer into the sewer system without first drinking it, go for it. you bought it, you do with it what you like.

i figure at some point i'll run into an infected six-pack that forces me to pour.

Missed a chance at going to VT for some "brewery tours" before those guys got really popular. I'm trying to forget the timeframe, but it was 3-6 yrs ago. I think the family that did go didn't truly realize what they were drinking. It lends to what we deem as "great" vs. "normal consumers". But at the same time, liking or hating something is quite subjective. It makes me wonder how some beers break through as "BA greats".

Anything Rogue Voodoo followed by trading a bottle of Eclipse a couple years ago and always buying some stuff just so I wouldn't walk out of a store empty handed. But the cherry on top is leaving California.

Dude....... props to you... I still don't enjoy beast. I don't think I ever will. I salute you in not wasting the beer though. I always finish every beer I purchase whether I like it or not. I don't believe in wasting beer.
