Well at least you're not a PA beer shop dealing with the annoying Russian River related questions! RR beer is around Philly, but still too rare for most bottle shops to carry regularly.

Why did he laugh at her? Chicago has so much great beer he clearly could have found her another beer that would make her happy.

Because that doesn't give him the same sense of superiority as laughing at her.

@HoptimusPrimeIPA hit the nail on the head. Why be a cool beer geek when you can be a douchey beer snob?

This is the worst. Most of the "big name" IPAs around here (Gandhi, SOS, Captain's Daughter) are always kept in the back of the stores. They're never put on the shelves, so you have to ask to have any chance of landing them.

However, go into almost any shop in CT and ask for any of these beers and you'll probably be laughed at and met with some condescending remark about how these beers are rare and sell out quickly.

Is it so difficult to say something like "nah man, sorry, we hardly ever have that in stock" or "it's been a while since we've had that, but keep checking back in"?

I think people new to craft beer are better off experimenting and buying a few different styles of beer to figure out what they like. Going to a bar that's busy and learning there is a bad idea. These are the same people that ask for 5 different samples before buying a full pour. Go to your local liquor store, buy some bottles and drink. Do research figure out the styles. Have an idea of what's on the menu when you enter a bar. Don't be afraid to try new shit. No one knows what you like but you.

Thats sad. I am not a beer snob, and avidly detest that kind of powdered douchery that unfolds on this forum. However, that being said, for the past week, I have currently donned a neckbeard in conjuntion with my facebeard. Am I die?

Same goes for me. Majority of the people I know would rather recruit more beer drinkers than shun them away or be snobby. While there are assholes in the scene that I've come across, majority are not snobs. The only time I see people being snobs is when its beer drinker vs beer drinker. "Oh you're drinking X beer? I had Y beer last night and I like it a lot better"

As many craft beer drinking friends I have, and bars and breweries and stores I've visited, I've been lucky enough to not gave met one snob. On the contrary, most meetings have been friendly, educational, or helpful in one way or another. More so than most groups if people I've encounter. I'm sure they're snobs out (check out the trading image here and you'll see a few), but I wouldn't let a few bad apples ruin the bunch. There's cornholes in all walks if life.

All I can think of is how to have cruelty free hops. I will now be hearing my hops scream when I put them in at the start of the boil.

I used to be a BEER SNOB.................

    Got better......

PS. My IPA bottled yesterday, using mountain hops grown in the purest volcanic ash soil, on the south side of the tallest mountain at an average temp of 72.6 degrees, has fallen off drastically, and I want everyone to know it!!!!

I think, sometimes, craft beer becomes a pissing contest, and people sometimes need a reality check. It's a serious "hobby" for some, lively hood for some(myself included), and just very casual for others. A lot of people are very much concerned with just getting the rare, and limited stuff. When they see a guy at "their" bar asking general beer questions they scoff at it. Which is so, so, so bad. It includes people in the industry. It's gotta stop. We want to help people. It's just that "counter-culture" attitude that get's the best of us sometimes.
