Personally, when I am traveling for work, I tend to have very little time for other things. When I do have a few minutes for personal things, I use it to call my wife, not to BeerAdvocate.

Really? What would he say? "Still on my trip". "Oh, hey, still out of town". "Yeah, out of town for two more days".

^^ yeah,it's better than silence. Everyone's busy but I think everyone can find one minute to send a message. @smittybrew83 is not a DNT guy.

I guess people have different feelings about how much communication they want, but I find hyperactive over-communicators quite annoying. I have no desire to constantly get updates from someone about how nothing has changed since the last time they messaged. If you say "I'm going to be out of town for a few days, but I'll fix it when I get back", I don't need to hear anything more until you're back in town and have a new tracking number for me.

I get that, but realize the OP is relatively new with one listed trade, hence the reaction. Imo he's reacting , not over reacting, his trade guy should have known his partner was new and might need updates. Missing a CW 17 is kinda a big deal for the OP or this thread doesn't exist.

Bottom line is that its common courtesy to reply when there are multiple messages sent. OP sent messages where the other guy saw them and didn't reply.Like I said it takes one minute to communicate.

Maybe you've never been left in the dark but it sucks

I'm a HUGE proponent of good communication, but there is a limit to what is reasonable to expect. It was clearly communicated that the trader will be away, when he will be back, and that he will be fixing the problem. 24 hours after he's due to come back home is HARDLY time past at all, not to mention all the possibility of his being stuck somewhere due to flight cancellations, etc. because of the bad weather or whatever. Nowhere (maybe I missed it?) did the OP said the trader read the messages and ignored him anyway. The OP clearly learned and agreed that he jumped the gun on this one. I hope other traders new or old would recognize the limit of what is reasonable.

As to forgetting to include bottles...I did it twice. Never say never, shit happens when you least expect it. Not everyone trades once or twice a month or a few bottles. Even with a checklist, things will slip through the crack. It's up to you and your trade partner to work on what will happen next. Shipping the missing bottle(s) is NOT the default answer for every situation.

In my case, a year ago, I forgot 2 bottles of Backwoods Bastard in a rather large box. It wasn't a big deal to my trade partner and we agreed right away to have those 2 shipped in our next trade. That next trade just happened this week and those 2 bottles are in the box to him. The funny thing was, he ended up mixing up the labels on the boxes and I ended up with the wrong box this time, but we worked out the most reasonable solution and without having him sent 2 new labels.

Right now, I still owe @_morandi_ a BCBBW '13. We are not planning on trading anytime soon, but he has absolutely no problem getting it in the next box. That was our first trade too.

Granted my scenarios didn't involve "centerpiece" bottles. If they were "big" bottles, I'd absolutely send a box out right away, but then again, I wouldn't have forgotten big bottles. I do my darndest not to forget, but if you expect me never to make a mistake or to update you with my life status if I forget a bottle and can't get to fixing it right away, PLEASE put me on your DNT list.

@mythaeus How do YOU know we're not planning on trading anytime soon?!

Agree with your sentiments though... communication is key, but give the person a little slack, especially when traveling. Maybe I'm too trusting, but everyone I've been lucky enough to trade with in this community has been awesome... so I usually assume folks aren't out to screw you.

SO.MUCH.THIS! I continue to believe that the "bad traders" represent a very small fraction of the trading community. Having gotten screwed by one, I STILL haven't changed my belief.

And yes! I'm due for some Kuhnhenn deliciousness in about a month

Yeah pretty much. Or give a heads up like, "Hey, I very much want to do this trade but I will be out of town for the next X number of days. I will get in touch on ___day and we can work it out."

The OP wasn't left in the dark, he was told by his trade partner exactly what he was going tondo.

While I agree communication is very important, as others have already said what exactly would you have had the trade partner say? Yeah, I'm still going to do what I said I'd do? Then the next day, "yeah I'm still going to.do 2 hat i.told you I'd do two times already".....then the next day, " yeah, I'm still going to do what I've already told you three times already"....

I agree, that would be a ridiculous amount of communication and I agree that OP did jump the gun a little,I just feel he shouldn't be on anyone's DNT list. That's all.
    Cheers man.

I recently sent two HoTD Freds by mere oversight instead of the HoTD Adam and Fred as we had agreed upon.
It happens. To err is human..I should have paid closer attention, so I failed to send an agreed upon bottle.
I offered to make it up to him and he said no problem.

    on the other hand....

I had a BIG box being sent to me in October from IA, confiscated by UPS in Portland, OR. Me and the OP have maintained light contact since then but I know he's good for it. I do not expect him to check in with me every day but he provides me random updates on things he is working on for me.

I guess I'm a glass is half full optimist who still believes 99.9% are here to to do the right thing.

Yeah, you're probably right. I don't travel for work and have no idea how hectic life on the road can be. I'm new to trading and I can understand OP's nervousness.
