I live in western Massachusetts, and while there's always a lively tap scene, when I need to pick up some bottles there's only a few places I trust (or that have anything at all of interest). Here they are...

Maybe we'll uncover a spot someone didn't know about, or maybe not...near me:

    1. The Beer Shop
    East Longmeadow, MA
    - the best around for miles. Super knowledgeable bordering on geeky, the most helpful and friendly place with probably the best bottle selection around and weekly tastings of things you can't buy around here and some local flare.

    2. The Spirit Haus
    Belchertown, MA
    - I wanted to rank them #1 because I've been there more often and they probably have the best bottle selection when it comes to unique beers and sours etc. the thing is, it seems like they don't always have any idea what they're sitting on, or maybe the people around here don't know yet. Killer selection. And while both #1 & #2 will do as much as possible for their customers you're more likely to find that big winner here.

    3. Table & Vine
    West Springfield, MA
    - part of a huge retail supermarket chain they have more beer than anyone else, but you're not going to find the really good stuff here very often. Great place to pick up a wide variety of craft beer but be prepared to head to one of the previously mentioned spots if you're looking for something special.

    Honorable Mention:

    Granby Liquors
    Granby, MA
    - great staff, great selection, limited space. It's admirable what they're doing over there and their people know their booze.

If you live near me do you know any other great spots for beer? If you don't live near me what are your go to spots?

    Cheers!!

Any of the 31 Binny's locations in northern Illinois serve me well. Great selection and prices. Plus you can arrange for delivery (minimum order is required).

Northwest Suburbs of Chicago: Binny's are the logical choice. I visit Schaumburg and Bloomingdale regularly. Armanetti's is sometimes a good source for Pipeworks that fly off the shelf at Binny's. I also like going to the Beer Cellar bottle shop in Glen Ellyn, Foremost in Arlington Heights, and Mr. A's in Palatine.

the whole foods here has a nice selection not to mention the fresh markets, most of those are too far away from me and cost more, some Publix grocery stores here have a Very nice selection now. but in THe south we had beer in grocery stores a long time. Then again we used to have blue laws, which was long ago....

I'm a pedestrian, so I typically go to places within reasonable walking distance.

Walsh Wines and Spirits, Brighton Center, Brighton
Brighton Gourmet and Cellar, Oak Square, Brighton
    Martignetti's, Soldiers Field Rd, Brighton

And though I don't spend that much time in bars, when I do it's usually Deep Ellum, Union Square, Allston.

I restrict myself to biking range but in Minneapolis within 5 miles or so I have 4 Firkins (St. Louis Park), 44 France, South Lyndale Liquor, Zipps, Surdyks and probably somewhere around a dozen microbreweries with taprooms and a pleasant atmosphere. There are also several bars with two or three dozen tap handles - Pig & fiddle, Muddy Waters, Bulldog, Republic, Happy Gnome and the Muddy Pig and I have probably left out several worthy places.

Not to be a dick, but shouldn't this be in a regional section? Because I have never heard of the majority of these places.
