For me, It's a brew from a local brewer here - Bronx Breweries Rye Pal Ale. I think this is a new addition to their line up. Didn't like their Bronx Pale Ale, but the rye variety was pretty, uh, unoffensive yet extremely drinkable. The 6.3% was barely detectable and the flavors were quite subdued. Are there any other beers you guys find that fall into this description? Not great, but not bad that you wouldn't mind having at any time, whether it be at home, or in a beer bar. SNPA would also fall into this category for me...

Troegs Hop Back is something that I used to drink a lot when I was back in PA

Hmmm - I mean there are beers that I don't love, that I'd pay for and drink should they be the only/best option. But I'm not going to pick them from a list of better beers because I'm craving something inoffensive - that just doesn't happen. Since you mention Bronx, then yeah their pale ale would fall into that category for me. Not quite sure if I'm getting your point though

A beer that you've had, and continue to drink even though it's not full of flavor, but is pleasant enough to pick up on a regular basis. Bronx Rye Pale falls into the same category (for me) as SNPA. You know what you are going to get, the flavors are not going to blow up, one you can session, but is also underwhelming to a point where it's not going to turn you off and disappoint. Don't know if that makes any more sense...

Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager falls into this category.

I'm not sure what you're asking, since it sounds like you're saying that "great" and "offensive" are the same thing.

I had my first Cigar City Invasion Pale Ale the other week. I thought it was very flavorful, and wouldn't hesitate to call it great. Does that mean I can't list it as "unoffensive" and give it my vote?

What we've got here, is a failure to communicate.

A beer that doesn't WOW, yet is acceptable to purchase and drink on a regular basis. Not great, but not bad to the point where you would black ball it entirely, or offer any negativity towards it. Sorry about my mis-communication...

Sam Adams Boston Ale posted above... Good example.

Do you mean (pick one or more) sessionable / low ABV / subtle?

If so there are beers that fall into this category that I love and actively seek out. "Inoffensive" though, to me at least, sounds like "drinkable mediocrity" and would only be a fall back for me.

Nah, you're not miss-communicating, we just have different ways of viewing this. I'm with @rollom above. SNPA has "wowed" me. Beers that can be everyday drinkers can wow me. In fact, the beers that can be everyday drinkers can wow me more than the bold stuff that you can't tolerate too much of. It seems like you are painting such beers in a negative light (which is fine).

based on the question, I'm going to say all of them ... I don't drink offensive beers

Nope, not at all. I'm not negatively portraying these beers. Beers in that category would be adjunct lagers. As an example, I know many members here paint a happy picture with PBR, Miller High Life... Yet these are beers that are offensive to me. Even highly rated lagers, such as Schlitz 60's style and Narragansett. A chore to drink. SNPA and Bronx Rye Pale were not offensive, yet did not really capture my attention. Good to drink. And wake up happy the next day, and have some more that evening without being offended by the taste, mouthfeel, etc.

Are there any APAs (using this style an an example, as you mention SNPA) that you love? That do capture your attention?

That's one I personally consider well above merely inoffensive. Great stuff, and also frequently in my fridge when I lived in PA.

By definition I would drink an inoffensive beer at any time.

But then again, I'd drink even the rudest beer at most times...

SNPA, Fire Rock, Dales, Carton Boat, maybe Daisy Cutter and Ballantine XXX, Westbrook Gose. Beers I'd have no problems purchasing and drinking if I were listening to music or a sporting event. A beer that is not going to overwhelm what I am listening to, or watching. Like... "DAMN, this beer is so good I have to pay more attention to all its qualities, ie: mouthfeel, back end, carbonation, etc. My original post noted Bronx Rye Pale Ale in this category of brewskmiers.
