    Hi guys!

So it is obvious when you look at the forums here on BA that a lot of beer lovers feel strongly about their beer of choice and the breweries they buy from... I read so often about beer advocates who will never buy this or that beer ever again because of this or that reason...

There is Goose Island, of course, and now Elysian; Alpine because the owner is rude; Lost Abbey because of quality issues; Rogue because of pricing; Blue Point because of A-B... what else? I'm sure I'm missing some of the "banned" brews that are usually talked about in the forums.

But I am curious as to whether any of you really go to your local beer store with a list of "banned" breweries and make a point of not buying their stuff? Or is the "I'll never buy from this brewery" spiel something we throw on the forums and then forget about when we go to the store (and buy that Bourbon County Coffee)?

    Let's hear about it, cheers!

I have some that I have no interest in purchasing from, like Alpine and Green Flash, but to be honest I don't even think about it. I could have 20 breweries I don't want to buy from and it wouldn't even register.

There's SO many great breweries and great beers out there.

That's the reason I don't mind having a list in the first place Someone's going to get my money and if I think you're a dick and don't deserve my money, I'll just as easily move on to the next guy!

I have a soft boycott of West 6th in Kentucky because I don't like tiny breweries trying to vilify large breweries because of a perfectly reasonable legal complaint (I suppose that Oasis is now on my "soft boycott" list, though I don't plan to be in Austin any time soon). What that means is that I never buy West 6th beer...unless it's the best/only drinkable beer available. For example, I was at a relatively divey local watering hole a week or so ago, my tap choices were a bunch of things I wasn't in the mood for, but they had West 6th IPA (which is a decent IPA). So, my choices are drink something I would enjoy less, or drink something brewed by somebody I like less. So, I had the West 6th.

I'm not a purist. I buy BCBS 'tho I'm bummed about InBev. Alpine is a sometimes for me, yet I've heard about dickishness of staff/owner from people I know rather than experienced it first hand. Lost Abbey I buy less of for the reason OP mentioned. But, having said almost nothing of worth here:slight_smile:, I haven't felt the urge to full on boycott a brewery yet. I have for other busniesses. Anything owned by the Koch Bros is off my list. But for the most part, I'd rather bitch a little, purchase less before I get worked up to boycott.

I agree with you. Never say never! I dislike In-Bev as much as any beer lover, but Bourbon County is tasty and relatively affordable so I'm buying it

@beernazi is right about the never say never ... I try not to, so in 2013 I said I'm putting Saint Arnold in a one-year penalty box, and I did. Didn't buy nor drink a single Saint Arnold beer in 2014. Don't plan to in 2015, neither, but we'll see.

In-Bev, however, is out. They could brew Westy 12, Heady, the Plinys and *all* the barrel-aged stouts in the world ... I *do* say never to them. Never again. They fired their shot during the Super Bowl, so I'll fire my little pop gun back and, if nothing else, be able to sleep at night knowing those bastards aren't using my pennies to buy up all of the beer in the world.

So you are not buying or drinking Bourbon County at all?

I have never banned a brewery from my list... but i've stopped buying all but a select few 3 floyds and mikkeller beers because they are really not very good. Funny they just opened a brewpub together.

This is my first time hearing about the alpine ordeal, alpine isn't available here, but that shit is majorly uncool.

To answer the question we all know you're asking.. i really don't care if InBev owns something, until i notice the quality change, if it's something i like, i'm going to buy it.

The beer's great, but their owner is kind of an asshat.*

This is a general belief based on observations on here and other social media, not my own feelings or based on my personal experiences.

So they are Three floyds. I get it! My consumption of Three floyds has slowed downed tremendously over the years because they are douche bags. Saying that, I an about to crack another ZD. I used to take a quick trip over the Michigan border to buy Lagunitas. Don't have to do that anymore, thank god, but they have been for the last few years and will most likely continue to be my go to Brewery. For a second they wanted to sue SN, where else can you buy a bomber for 5$ Not Three Floyds.

Why is that so hard to believe?
I can get a very good substitute for BCBS locally that is not even bottled. And I would be willing to bet many others could as well.

Please give me more specific evidence of them being douche bags. I'm not doubting it, i just want to see it for myself so i can dislike them a little more. They really make mostly mediocre beers at best, and make them really fucking hard to get, and everyone goes crazy for them. Founders, on the other hand makes quality beer atleast 90% of the time and they're readily available. If you ain't got core beers you ain't got shit, i'm talking to you, 3 floyds.

The only redeemable thing they do is support metal bands, but that really doesn't matter enough to make a difference.

(Sorry OP not trying to jack your thread, but we're trying to keep it on topic!)
