Have you seen any other BA displays in shops?

(sorry only had a potato on me to take the picture)

I have seen single brews with the BA rating in the front of the row but never an entire display. I hope the Bros. are getting something for the use of the name.

I see a lot of shelf tags with rate beer and BA ratings on them. Never this elaborate.

If those are all available at the store, then obviously they can't be that highly rated

I have never seen anything that elaborate, but every store that I have seen references for/to are "Rate Beer" ratings price tags.

This is true. The bigger beer stores I've been to have the little BA rating above the price tag.

I can't recall ever seeing any BA rated beers in stores. Most stores use the RateBeer scores because they are significantly higher 99% of the time. This is also why I never ever pay attention to any of their scores. By their ratings, half the beers I have tried are 98-100.

Yep, same here. RateBeer scores most of the time.

No displays like that, but my local bottle shop has the shelf-tags from BA all up and down the aisles.

I've seen scores listed for individual beers a few times, and I've seen bars that included scores on their beer menu for certain beers. It's definitely not common in my experience.

Where is that? I'm here in Louisville and all i ever have noticed are RateBeer scores, though I rarely pay attention.

I believe a few places in Burlington, VT use the BA shelf tags.

I use BA and RB ratings at my store here in Alberta and they get people talking.

Really?? I've looked at the scores here way more often than the scores on RateBeer, so maybe there's a general trend toward higher scores for some beers that I haven't seen... but just poking around at some right now (looking at beers I've had, which run the range from low 60s to low 90s in BA score terms) it seems like the RateBeer scores tend to be drastically lower.

Though... after looking around a bit more, it seems like the "everything seems to be rated super high" and the "everything seems to be rated super low" effects (depending on what beers you look at) are both the result of whatever bizarre method they're using to calculate their 100-point-scale scores... if you look at the "weighted average" 5-point-scale scores instead of the 100-point-scale ones they put up in the big blue circles, things end up looking a lot closer to the BA scores on the same scale, give or take 0.5 points or so. The gaps between 100-point scores don't seem to correspond very well with the gaps between 5-point-scale scores at all. Apparently on RateBeer a 3.66 average is a score of 97, while 3.28 is a 62... both of those would be in the high-70s to low/mid-80s range on here if I'm remembering right.

I have a spreadsheet of every beer I have tried with various info. Earlier this year I got curious about how they all rate on here and then I decided to look at RateBeer as well. I have columns with ratings for each beer I have tried. Based on the 0-100 rating system, RateBeer is on average 8 points higher. There are maybe 20 beers on my list where they are actually lower. Some are over 20 points higher. It's all subjective. I'm used to the ratings here, and I feel like they are far more realistic and the reviews here are generally very helpful as well, so this is where I come if I want to look up something that I may be interested in trying.

Total Wine will switch between the two sources, BA and Ratebeer. I assume it's typically to get the higher of the two ratings displayed. I will admit I hold the BA score higher every time.

At my store, I exclusively use BA ratings... We have more wine-savvy customers than beer... BeerAdvocate is just a more professional sounding source than "Ratebeer." And it falls inline with the world of wine ratings...

Yea, I see why they do it... but does a shop really need a rating on everything? In my opinion, it adds legitimacy to the shop to not go overboard with "digging" for high ratings...

When there's a huge selection, like that of Total Wine, I don't mind it too much. I don't see it too often at the smaller shops, but when I do, it's typically just to put the spotlight on something that might be a little underground at the time.
