Well put. I'd also say that Troegs isn't also responsible for peoples' Inflated Baseline Syndrome when it comes to stuff like hops.

I agree with you, but why does ratebeer think this is an IPA?

I think his point was...the Uber excitement derived from the excellent Marketing Strategy is really what did it for him...but I could be off base too. That was the case for me. Any to your point, yes absolutely.

Because that's the way Ratebeer is and why I don't spend my time there. These sites are not the bible on beer and mistakes happen both there and here.

My problem is that it doesn't get distributed to WY, Casper specifically.

Now would it be more Troegs marketing to blame or just the internet neck beard hype to blame? It's not like there were Nugget Nectar commercials on TV or anything. Most of this hype is generated by consumers. For whatever reason. I think the cans had something to do with it. I liked the cans. I've drank over a case of this stuff. I like it a lot. Not the best beer in the world but it's very good.

Sorry to spoil your fun. (Especially since your Avatar name is one of my all time favorite beers. :-) ).

Sounds like you're not very familiar with different beer styles. Check this out. How many of those aren't hop forward?

I first came to Nugget Nectar through my brother, who lives in the shadow of the brewery. Was kind of like a "try this" sort of thing, maybe near the time we were both getting deeper into craft beer. So, I didn't come to it by way of the hype and became a fan before realizing that there is some build up (at least regionally) surrounding its release.

I'm aware it's not an IPA, but also realize the hops are a significant part of the beer's attraction. Dead Guy Ale is a bock, but the identity crisis never kept me from enjoying it either.

Are you suggesting that hops should only be used to market IPAs?

First off Nugget Nectar is one of my favorite beers and I also really enjoy Perpetual.
Secondly they are not marketing NN as an IPA. They are simply stating it is a hop forward beer. There are plenty hop forward beers out there that are not IPAs.
As a regular Troeg's drinker I get more upset over the fact that Perpetual isn't even considered an IPA. Technically its an Imperial Pale Ale.
And I cant speak to the hype that everyone is talking about. Maybe its because I'm in Philly and NN is very accessible but I don't see a ton of hype. Sure its a seasonal that people are excited about, but Hopslam gets way more hype and I don't find it anywhere near as enjoyable as NN.

They name the beer after a hop varietal, the logo is hops being squeezed out for all their worth, the description favors CITRUS, RESIN, PINE, the beer -----> Amber Ale, WHAT?
