Do you rate beers here on BA? If yes, what drives you to rate? Personal logbook of beers tasted? Going for a high score? Something so good or bad you had to rate AND review? Do you take notes on multiple beers then post?
    If no,Why not? ...and no,I am not a rater..yet.

I'm a rater or a ticker depending on how one looks at it. I've tried many beers over the years ,but do not like to write reviews.

Personal log book of beers tasted. I used to write more wordy reviews but found it made the drinking of a beer a chore which it should not.

    Less words, more enjoyment

I rate for the simple fact that I want to remember if I liked something or not. Once you have had a few hundred beers (or much much more) it gets a little hard to remember the ones that didn't really wow you, or the ones that were just awful. Those you always remember. But all the ones in the middle. Kinda hard to keep them apart.

Admittedly, I won't tend to do a review of a beer I don't like. Just like to share my feelings about a beer that I do like for others to consider before purchasing.

I rate beers mostly to keep a sort of logbook for myself but also to contribute to the info here. I review as well for the same reasons but generally only after I have "x" beer a couple of times.

I rate/review mostly to amuse myself and give myself some sort of database for what I've drank (at least the beers I'd like to remember). However, I also do it to add to the overall ratings of the beer in question, because I figure if I use those ratings for my own education, I should give back some of that "education" as well. I don't think my reviews are particularly enlightening, but I try to at least write them so that people get a general idea of what type of beer it is.

I started off writing reviews but was trying so many different beers I got tired of the commitment. Now I rate them and if I find one I really enjoy or immensely dislike I'll give it a review.

I do it because I can...and in the end I want to know how many beers I got to try before my liver and kidneys screamed uncle.

I rate beers - just not on this site. Way too time consuming and clunky to do it on the go.

I prefer Untappd and it's a lot more social.

Helps me to keep track of what I've had and if I liked or disliked. If it helps anyone else, that's even better.

Personal logbook, and I want to contribute to the score of a beer by making it more accurate for the next BA trying to figure out what to buy at their local shop.

I give this thread an 4.4 in originality, taste, response, and the overuse of the word "Logbook".

I'm sort of new to the whole world of beer outside of the macro. I started reviewing beers to fully appreciate what I was drinking. Before I review a beer I like to look at the style and see how much I actually know about it. Once I do that it makes it easier for someone like me to go into a liquor store and understand which styles I like. It can get a bit overwhelming to go into a store and pick, so this gives me more confidence.

I rate all beers. I review many of them but I do not review a beer if I have had a few and my tastes and opinions might not be fresh. I log all of my beers here on BA and also keep a handwritten log of all I have tried, alphabetically by Brewery. ! also save one of each bottle to put and display in my man cave[IMG]

I'm in the logbook group. Oddly enough though, no matter how many beers I have rated or reviewed, I can remember the setting and mood of at least 80% of the beers I have had just by looking at the date. That will get me reminiscing about life in general at the time, so I guess my "ticking" if you will, has become an inadvertent life journal.

I rate (and sometimes review) as a personal log of things that I have had. This way I can keep track of what I did and did not like. If I feel there is something to write down, then I do. I do not review if it feels like work, otherwise what is the point? My reviews are not the way that BA recommends them to be done either. That is way too involved and distracts from the main point of our passion, to have a good time. The notes I usually put in are whether or not I would come back to that brew.
