How dare you accuse me of being a ratist!

If I didn't record it somehow, I'd never be able to remember what I've tried and what I like.

Hey, you have an opinion, too. That's cool.

#1 is good advice. I pretty much keep that little box checked at all times.

The answer to #2, for me, is quite a few, sorted different ways to see reviews from people who loved it, hated it, and reviewed it more recently. I wouldn't say several hundred, but I would say a couple dozen at minimum, and if they're over a few years old I give them less weight than a more recent review because things can change. This is mostly because I have a weird palate and I'm trying to tease out whether that "mild hop presence" the first eight people mentioned means a literal mild hop presence, or something that will trip my "you can only taste a single-note wall of rancid perfume, compost heap runoff juice, or pine-scented floor cleaner" problem. Usually, the more people who remark on hop character, the more likely it is that I can't drink that beer. It sounds nice having a palate closer to the norm on here!

But I really don't care about the people who just rate rather than review, because I pretty much ignore the number part when I'm searching. When you're as far off the norm here as I am palate-wise, the numbers are not exactly helpful much of the time.

Log book. It's a reminder when you look back to see how you have changed.

I rate and review. I even tick. I love to try all the beer. Reviewing is time well spent I think. It gives you a nice way to express the experience of the beer you are having in a creative and fun, informative way. I can't tell you how I have enjoyed getting to know some of your personalities by your reviews.

I used to review on here, back when I thought the system made sense. I have now stopped and changed over to another process for my rating and recording needs. The fact is that as I sit among friends and drink, I don't want to take 10 minutes out to rate every aspect of a beer. I also don't like the weighting attributed to each category. My best friend is blind and loves beer as much as the next guy, he can't properly review one according to this site. I have a lot of issues with the new system (obviously) and so I just decided to cease utilizing it.

It helps me remember what I've tried and liked. I used to be pretty militant about rating everything I try, but I've eased up on it.

I don't rate beers often because I work in wholesale and I wouldn't want to present a biased opinion, because even if it wasn't biased people would perceive it to be. If it's a beer that we can't get in my state then I am more likely (but still not likely) to rate it. I do check beers in sometimes on untappd.

I just started rating recently but have been visiting the site and keeping my own beer log for a long time [nerd alert]. I started logging them on here because not only is it easier, but I think it enhances the community. Aside from High Life (the only non-craft I will occasionally drink), I try to stick to quality or underreported brews. Now that I have a pile of back-logged reviews posted, I will likely rate everything shortly after giving something a fair tasting trial.

I rate and always do a review. I believe (mistakenly) that others will find my reviews interesting/witty, etc.

I'm a reviewer, pretty much just for my own usage. If someone else likes or even pays attention to my reviews that's great. If people think my reviews suck, that's fine too. I'm not on Untappd, and I don't pay much attention to the tick/rating scores on here. I don't have a problem with people who do that, I just like to read people's reviews of what they're drinking. Unfortunately it seems like there aren't as many reviewers on BA anymore, and there's a lot more tickers/raters.

I rated starting as a log book to remember beers, then it became my hobby, I can't help up review a beer whenever I try it!

I rate just in case I think about buying a beer I haven't had in a while. I can check if my remembered sentiment matches the beer I'm thinking of. I have a terrible memory so it helps.

I rate when I don't have time to review like others have mentioned but do it with the intention of giving a well thought out review later

Review every beer I've had on BA and food pairings for 90%+ of reviews. Moved from wine to beer so food pairings are something I like to offer.

    Kind of.

Rated 16, but have had over 130. I keep a spreadsheet.

    A rater? I am a master-rater... :astonished: That don't sound right... :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, yes. I review (not just rate) beers here on BA, as well as keeping a spreadsheet of the beers on my PC (sans the reviews).

I enjoy being into beer, and reviewing - as well as photographing and posting - what I drink is part of that experience.

    Cheers

I'm a rater just to return the favor and give my .02. It is also a way to log what you've tried I guess if you think about it.

I rate every new beer I try. My ratings are for my benefit but if others find them useful that is a bonus.
