First and foremost, I am extremely proud to be associated with a group of people so incredibly generous as what we have here; and I in no way want to be negative about that generosity.

What I'm suggesting is more akin to setting a dollar limit to the office Secret Santa, so that we don't have a few Michael Scott's bringing in iPods when everyone else had a teapot. You expressed is that now you don't feel bad for going over yourself, so obviously you are not the person who minds stepping it up to an iPod if that's where we're taking it, but it's possible there are others who would.

We do a fair amount of "large" rounds as well where it is more appropriate to go nuts and send as much beer as you can shove into the biggest box you can find, and I do not feel badly that some people might abstain from these large rounds because they feel they cannot keep up. Those rounds aren't for everyone, or might be poorly timed for someone who would otherwise have participated, and that's ok, you don't need to participate in every round. What I think is not ok is for there to be anyone that abstains from every round because they feel they cannot ever keep up, that's not what we're about.

Maybe I am making a mountain of a molehill, and maybe I'm speaking for a silent minority that does not exist, but just in case there is anyone who does feel this way, but doesn't want to speak up themselves either because they think they're the only one, or out of embarrassment, or whatever, I'll speak up for them.

As an aside, you do make a very valid point about 150oz of Wants vs 300oz of shelfies, but I haven't seen a box full of shelfies yet; to the credit of the senders, even the 300oz boxes have been full of Wants and should-be Wants.

tl;dr Generosity should absolutely be applauded, but on the other side of the coin I don't want us chasing anyone away because they feel like they can't keep up.

And yes, of course I am a bit jealous I'm not in this round, but I'm not ranting on my own behalf, or at least not exclusively.

    Easy...Stop doing it.

As I mentioned I do not think anyone in this group would be disappointed with a 150oz box from another member of this group. I think it satisfies the requirements and as long as the box is crafted with wants/style preferences and locals it is all good in my world.

Upon further review, I actually remember seeing this picture -- however, I didn't realize it was a BIF box, because I misinterpreted that when you said...

that this meant you didn't know that's what it was either...

I don't think I'm being negative about generosity, I'm encouraging inclusiveness by not making the rounds intended to be "small" intimidating to those less inclined to send a ton of beer.

You make a very good point that a thoughtful 150oz box would be appreciated no matter what, so perhaps what I should advocate for, instead of sticking more rigidly to limits, is for us to be more outspoken about this fact when starting a round. If we were more clear that those who go above and beyond do so completely on their own but that as long as you're creating a thoughtful box full of good beer, it doesn't matter if you're at the top or bottom of the group in oz sent.

End of the day I just don't want to see another situation like our OP, or someone that sits out in the first place for fear of it.

Yes, I think the point is that nobody else should feel obligated to send a massive box just because somebody else did...and that nobody should sit out these "small" rounds because they are intimidated by the "big" rounds...

I'll throw my hat into the ring on this dispute. I somewhat agree with @LehighAce06 I probably would not have joined this round if it were a 300 oz limit, but joined because it is relatively "small." I never mind people going above and beyond as long as the expectation is not that it is required. Generosity is not a bad thing, as long as the people who send 300 ozs are not disappointed when they receive "only the max 150ozs." Assuming it is a well made box. I applaud @Dave_Treat for paying forward his good luck, and certainly would not want to stop anyone from doing that. I just don't want the expectation to become that you have to send double the max limit in any BIF round.

This is exactly what I'm getting at. I know a lot of us feel like we should "keep up with the Joneses" whether it's expected or not, and sometimes it's nice to just send out a smaller box without this over one's head, no matter who put it there.

I don't know that I'd call it a "dispute" though, I think it's more a healthy conversation about what is expected from these rounds. I know we like to keep things light most of the time, but for the long-term sustainability of the group I think it makes sense to talk things out now and then.

edit: I'd also like to invite anyone, involved in the discourse so far or not, to reach out to me privately if you would like to speak further but not publicly.

I think I can settle this Pam Pan thing: let's all sit in a circle and go skiing, that's the theme to this round, right?

    Too soon?

    Agree completely.

On a different note, #vwbs. Virtual walking boot share. I'm sharing to apologize for any delay in shipping, as I'm not extremely mobile right now. Sixterhood and trade will go out Monday or Tuesday still but I want to get back uptown for some beer for my target and LIF, but not so easy right now
