So what's your answer to others who might say something like, "You spend what on a 4pk of beer!? I got a case of PBR for $18 and you spend $12 on 4 bottles!?". I usually just tell them that I enjoy the taste so much better that's it's worth the price to me. What are some of your classic comebacks? Cheers...and I'm off to drink my $3 bottle of Founders Imperial Stout...thank you very much....HA, HA

It's never come up, but if it did I'd probably ask them why the hell they give a shit

I think the only person that has ever questioned it is my SO. That being said I work hard and this is my hobby so f off. Plus she never complains when I share so... its never been an issue.

Never been asked. My wife may ask the question, but it's normally in a rhetorical, angry, point-making way, not because she's halfway through a rack of PBR and just can't understand. And it's usually followed up with - "did you see any Batch 60?"

    $4 a 280ml bottle for Delerium Tremens - I say:
"it is worth every cent but in order for you to understand, I would have to let you taste it and in so doing, open up a whole new world to you. Saddly for you, however, that is not happening."

The reason I mentioned this is my neighbor (who's a great guy) saw me carrying in some 4pks and was just busting my balls since he knows I don't care too much for HIS beer (PBR)

    Depends on my mood, really.

"Cause I ball so hard I don't even care."
"Cause I'm feelin so fly like a G-6."

    "You buy PBR? Peasant."
"Oh, well, you see, I drink the drink of Russian Czars and French Kings, not gutter swill."

"I like supporting my local economy, because we should all be in it together."
"You should buy expensive beer too instead of supporting the machine."

I also just blankly stare at them like I'm trying to judge them and see into their soul like Ghost Rider. That one works every time.

Are oenophiles under the same pressures to justify how much they spend on wine? Somehow I doubt it. Why should beer be any different?

Exactly, beer and guns are my hobbies (not together)

And I don't do drugs or smoke so I might as well spend that money on beer.

Telling people, "Everyone has a hobby" also makes me sound less condescending or judgmental when talking about it.

And they say us craft beer drinkers are snobby or obnoxious

I have a very low threshold for shit like that so i'm happy he's not my neighbor!

Hard to do? I can't even get the balls to ask myself why I spend so much so I certainly couldn't answer my wife!?

When it comes to alcohol, food and prostitutes, I have learned that spending a few extra bucks is well worth it.

Cheaper than my bourbon, camera, or bike hobby. Cheaper than therapy. Life is to short to drink bad beer. Or compare it to bread so they understand. Bud = wonder white. There is however, tuscan white, pumpernickel, rye, whole wheat, soudough etc.

When someone asks me "why do you spend so much money on beer?" i'm all like "why does your mom spend so much money on beer?", then i'm all like "peace fart face", then i walk away.
