dont be bitter just because you can only get two bottles of a good barrel aged stout and have to pay $35 each to do so. is there even one decent barrel aged stout made in Cali that isnt ridiculously expensive and hard to get?

its easy to keep production cost down when you can buy the whole city of Detroit for $18 and a pack of mentos.

beer name - price - volume - BA score
    ---------------------------------------------
    Parabola - $15.99 - 22 oz - 100
    Pugachev's Cobra - $18 - 750 ml - 97
    Fyodor's Classic - $18 - 500 ml - 99
    Infinite Wishes - $13 - 500 ml - 97
    BA Narwhal - $18 - 750 ml - 96

All the above had wide distro except for Infinite Wishes, which was a brewery-only release. It was fairly easy to get (i was in and out in 20 minutes). Future releases will probably see a price increase as well as an increase in demand.

Here we go again with the bad attitudes. Same thing happened with Kiwi Herman. I thought enough people had Remy's Pappy to determine that it's not "overrated". Part of the reason I gave away one of my Kiwi Hermans was to show that west coast BA's aren't greedy stingy jerks. Beer it forward people.

All of those are pretty overpriced, Parabola is the only one id consider buying.

You asked for decent beers below $35. I gave you several below $20. Now you're shifting goal posts. While I think california could use a lesson in consumers friendly formats, I provided a list that more than satisfies your criteria.

Seriously overpriced? As much as I'd love to pay $10 for cobra, I wouldn't say that $18-20 for 750ml of beer of such quality is overpriced. Could you post some examples of beer of same quality that are at least 30% cheaper (to consider it not overpriced)

I don't see anyone naming a cheap beer that was aged 2 years in PVW barrels. What was the cost of Rare when it came out?

no i asked for decent beers that arent expensive, i just used a $35 beer as an example. all those are good beers by the way, but most arent worth the monies.

maybe its just a problem i have with large format pricing in general. KBS, Black Note, BBPT5, Hipster Brunch, BB Mayan Mocha are all at least 30% cheaper per ounce than an $18 750.

So what should their retail cost be, in your opinion?

Edit: just saw you post some options.

Bbpt5 and black note are both great and I'd gladly purchase both of those if I had access. KBS is pretty good but often times tastes like spent coffee grounds. I'll take every one of the beers on my list over KBS. Never had the other one on your list. BTW, have you had infinite wishes?

Yep, you can't compare 750ml/22oz pricing with 4/6 pack pricing, larger format I always going to be more expensive. That said, I do with more CA BA stouts were available in 4/6 packs, but it is what it is.

KBS is a weird beer. its awesome fresh, weird after 6 months, and delicious with a year+ on it. also, its $20 for 48oz. Infinte Wishes is the one on your list i have not had, sounds good though.

It's very hard to turn a profit margin for smaller breweries on a 6 pack of stouts/BA stouts in California. 22oz is easier to bottle and turn the highest profit margins. I mean there's a reason no one does it, and if they do they're canning them which is a tremendous start up cost to buy the necessary machinery for production
