Back again after that disappointing brew from Great Lakes.

    Southern Tier 2XStout
    [IMG]

Pours a nice black color, shows some brown on the edges when held up to the light.
Nice aromas of roasted malts and little hops on the end. Makes my mouth water!
Has that great chocolate milk taste with a nice bitter hoppiness on the end.
Super easy to drink and a really tasty beer!

Much better follow up to that IPA that was disappointing.

    Cheers!

Good evening all! Cracked this open this evening:

3rd in the series. This one by far has the most complexity, as they used Belgian yeast in it. Looks beautiful with the type of lacing you'd have dreams about. Tastes almost to "coriandery" for me to enjoy as the spice notes aren't banana, bubble gum or clove (my favorite results from Belgian yeast) leaving this closer to say a white. Not much hop action at all either.

I find (and like :stuck_out_tongue:) Prairie Birra and Prairie Hop a little bit more bitter than Standard, but it is super drinkable.

 This new to me low ABV IPA is now one of my favorites. Drinking out of the can surely helps, but it seems much fuller bodied than Founders All Day and a little bit more than Lagunitas Daytime and Go To. Piney, citrusy hops and not much else. Some bready malt flavors present in the finish. Will be drinking much more of this stuff. Cheers NBS!

Crazy week around here including the 4th biggest snow on record. Fortunately it warmed up quickly or the city would have been a mess for days.

Today's new beer is from one of our local breweries - Blue Pants, and is their take on a classic German Pilsner. I have to be honest that this isn't a normal style for me so I might not have the best of descriptions in the review, but this is one fantastic beer.

Very pale yellow and crystal clear. A head that lasts for days. Aromas of subtle hops and cracker malts. Crisp refreshing finish. If all pilsners tasted like this, I would probably buy them mor often.

Lots of interesting product coming from Blue Pants lately, and want to give to shout out to @honkey for a job well done!

Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker by Three Floyds. I hadn't heard of this one when I made my purchase but it has the 3F stamp and they seem to do a good job at brewing this style so I figured...why not? I'm definitely enjoying this. It's hoppy but not too bitter. Lots of citrus going on here. Has enough malt and sweetness to keep balanced and then some. Overall a solid APA.

I agree. It isn't a black ale and it is more of an easy drinking Am. Stout. And a smooth and tasty one at that.

I really appreciate the kind words! We put a lot of effort into that Pils and I am really happy with the results. The inspiration for it was the Augustiner Pils and I don't think I have ever brewed a beer that came out so close to what I was imagining in the concept phase.

NEW BARREL AGED AMERICAN BARLEYWINE SUNDAY

The little monkey and I had a great time in the snow today. We probably cleared almost 1% of the driveway with his toy digger and dump truck. He takes this sort of work very seriously, I get a big kick out of that!

I'm not going to focus on the price, which was disappointing. I opened my bottle tonight and it is magnificent. The barrel aging added around 4% to the abv, but it so incredibly well incorporated! That extra oomph provides an aroma vehicle for rich raisins, lush bourbon, and hints of oak, vanilla, and chocolate. Great bourbon barrel/barleywine balance in the nose. As wonderful as this smells, it might taste even better. A well aged Mouflan (which I miss, haven't one in a long while) with its rich, amber ale caramel and hints of faded citrus easily stands up to what must of been very fresh, wet barrels. Make no mistake, the barrel presence is far from shy; it's quite assertive actually. Plenty of vanilla, muted oakiness, and wave after wave of warming bourbon. Barrel aging at it's best, no doubt.

No formal review for now, I'll finalize my notes later. I'm off to savor the rest of this beast, cheers!

Well, I bought one bottle of the Habanero Sculpin and thought I'd try it for New Beer Sunday.
Love the Grapefruit Sculpin. Right away the pepper aroma smacks you in the face. The taste does not disappoint. The habanero dominates, but in a good way. So spicy! Good god, I'm sweating but I want to keep drinking it! This is a really interesting beer and it's more along the lines of what I thought Stone's Crime would be. I love hot peppers even with the whole sweating thing, and as much as I like this one I'm glad I only bought one bottle. Anyway, I could use the heat after shoveling snow (enough already!) today.

    Cheers!

    Greetings All:

Checking in for the great northwest with an imperial red ale from the farther north and farther west. Alaskan Imperial Red.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/429/87774/

A decent red ale, sweeter that I expected, but tasty just the same.

Sunny here on the Columbia Basin, but chilly with temps only to the mid 40's. Still I'm always glad to put February in the rear view mirror, and by this time next week we will have done the "spring forward" thing.

    Happy Trails!

Had my first Raison D'extra. I highly enjoyed it fresh. I found it really smooth for the ABV and will have to go find another bottle to cellar.
