When does KBS hit South East VA?

Can't remember, used to chase whales, gave it up long ago, though...

 

It never actually hits, it just kind of hovers there for a second and then its gone.

This is from another thread on BA, someone posted the info from the KBS week ticketing page: KBS will be available throughout Michigan beginning on Monday, March 16, and throughout the rest of our footprint beginning on Monday, March 30

I don't know if bottles make it out before kegs, but I feel like it's really easy (relatively speaking) to find this on tap in VA but bottles, not so much. My understanding is shops/bars don't know if they'll get it at all, never mind how much they'll get if they do.

 

You should expect this to hit right around Apr 1st. I am in Central VA and it has been released the first week of Apr (depending delivery schedules) the past few years.

 

That sounds right and in line with what I've heard and what Founders posted. It sounds to me like this is slated to be on delivery trucks starting 3/30 and stores will hopefully shelve it immediately. Of course, not everyone gets their Founders delivery on Mondays so I expect the earliest we'll see it is Monday but it'll probably start popping up over the rest of that week.

 

I wouldn't discount Monday altogether, as it's not unusual at all to have an off day delivery when the product in question is a coveted limited one. Just keep your eyes and ears open. Of all the bottle shops in CVA, I have found that Whole Foods is pretty good at posting their new deliveries, so if you are adverse to calling (as am I) you can just follow them. If anyone else knows of a better passive intel source, do share.

 

Oh no, definitely didn't mean to discount it. I'd expect big accounts especially to have it but the folks only getting a case - who knows if the distributor would make a special drop, that's all I meant.

As far as passive intel, aside from something like this thread or stalking a fb page, I got nothing.

 

Well it's Hop&Wine, so whatever day they deliver to whichever store is when the KBS will come. After 4/1, that is.

 

I'm in NOVA and can't even seem to find the classic breakfast stout, so I'm not too hopeful

 

Norfolk TW seems to have a perpetual pallet of FBS...

 

Sterling TW said they are getting a single case of KBS, single bottle per person...expanded states they disty to, and not a huge increase in production means this is gonna be a limited beer in va

that's how its been for years, I wasn't expecting anything else.

 

They had mentioned in years past they they go upwards of 10 cases going back to 2013...I need to make the rounds today!

 

Wow, that's crazy, I just moved to northern VA from Norfolk last year and Richmond before that, but I've never heard of anywhere in VA getting that much KBS. I'd expect all of NOVA to get a total of about 10 cases this year. KBS is one beer I never attempt to get, the trouble is just too much for the one bottle most places will sell you. It must be the most widely known "whale" among the larger craft beer community.

 

Yea, I've got a couple local stores in my neck of the woods that hook me with a 4 pack generally, very good stout, not great imo, but I still manage to get a few bottles at least and my friends have hooked me in the past as well.

 

If you deem it "not great", why don't you leave it for people (who don't have people hooking them up with four packs) who do think it's great, and save your $$ for beers you DO consider great?
