Every now and then, I have (or hear about) a beer that makes me think, why don't I buy that (beer or style) more often? For me, it's often just a clean, hoppy pale ale or IPA. Nothing fancy, just a good, refreshing, everyday beer. For whatever reason, my buying pattern gravitates more toward big, dark, imperial, barrel-aged beers—which I also love, but let's face it, they aren't necessarily all that refreshing. When I do buy a nice pale ale or IPA, it's the first thing I drink (for freshness) and then it's gone, and I'm back to my stouts, barleywines, what have you. Honestly, if I didn't have so many big imperial beers in the cellar that I'm constantly trying to get through, I'd probably be happy mostly drinking a handful of the same 6% pales and IPAs.

Anyone else do this, or am I a freak of nature?

The beer style that I wish I could purchase (and therefore drink more often) is Classic American Pilsner (CAP).

Straub makes a nice CAP they call 1872 Lager but I have only been able to lately purchase it periodically when it is released as part of a seasonal variety pack.

    Cheers!

I find that I think like you do when spring starts coming around the corner. After months of thick, heavy beers, I start buying 6 packs of old favorites and wondering why I don't purchase them more. Right now, I have been purchasing a lot of Two Brothers Night Cat and Temperance Gatecrasher since they have just what I want: a tasty malt presence with aromatic hops.

A style I wish that I would drink more often is the red/amber ale.

I wish I drank Bayerischer Anstich, cask-conditioned, and Tankova styles more often.

Helles lagers. Wish more were made for my consumption. I've recently gone through/been going through pilsner and quad phases for the same reason. Styles I liked or thought should experience more of.
I usually stick to IPAs and stouts but it's fun to go off on tangents

I like to drink through the seasons, hence the boom/bust cycle that goes on in my cellar. I'm looking forward to drinking some nice pilsners this summer, and the occasional Schneider Weisse.

I also need to drink more quad/bdsa style beers. I crave raisin and toffee

English and German traditional styles. Belgian and American styles are easy to get a hold of, but the other two are a real treat when you can get them.

I wish I had an imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels every day, unfortunately they aren't so common.

They are ridiculously common. I probably have more of those in my cellar than any other kind of beer. (See my OP above)

Doppelbocks, just not a lot of breweries doing the style and even less doing it well.

Quality Pilsner, dry and crisp. None of that sweet, creamy malt loaded crap.
