hopefully this will be my first time going this year and I have a few questions about the event.
    1. whats the difference in types of tickets? general admission and group tickets, who can buy dark lard? I am really confused about that whole thing.
    2. why does it say on there site to only cross the train tracks at 45th and claumet?
    3. can you only get tickets on there website and a small quantity sold at there location? or are there other places to get them either online or in person?

Outside the gates (on the road) = public property = illegal to drink
Outside the gates (on someone business's lawn) = OK to drink (if you have permission to be there and that business isn't licensed to serve alcohol) or trespassing (if you don't have permission)

Eh, but they will follow orders to "deprioritize" enforcement because other duties "take precedence". I'm pretty sure this is how the bottle shares got approved in the past. It also seems like the only explanation for the pretty open pot use at Lolla, Pitchfork, etc.

This depends on what Munster's permit states...kinda like when you have a block party...not necessarily illegal to drink on public property.

It might be best to wait until they update http://darklordday.com/ with this year's ticket sales information which will likely be in the next week or so. When they announce the date for online ticket sales, these will be the group tickets (groups based on time windows to purchase the beer) which allow you to purchase an allotment of Dark Lord (4 bottles per ticket this year)

Keep an eye on http://darklordday.com/tickets/ for when they update with this year's ticket sales information. There may or may not be group tickets later available at the brewpub for purchase. Watch their twitter feed or FB if you want information for onsite ticket sales (if they even occur at all this year).

Group tickets = you can buy dark lord at a certain time determined by your group letter. This prevents everyone from crushing into the buy line at once.
GA = Come in, enjoy the music, taps, and food, but no buying to-go DL.
It's a controlled crossing with warning gates and all that fancy stuff. Drunk people + train tracks = a bad time

Mostly just online. In past years, some tickets were sold on-site at semi-random times. You still get neckbeards showing up every morning before they open hoping for tix to go on sale that day.

Yeah, you're right. Not necessarily illegal with the right permit... but I think the festival permit only extends to the enclosed area, and that runs into the whole no bringing booze to places that serve it thing...

I guess I always thought/assumed they had basically the entire industrial park loop. That would help explain why the local businesses, most anyway, can sign off for FFF to use their parking spaces for charitable purposes. The enclosed or ticketed area, is just that...to meet capacity constraints on the festival itself.

On another note, the Town of Munster is in some serious financial trouble these days...the last person they would want to piss off is FFF and it's patrons.

Absolutely yes, but I seem to be in the minority.

There is, but the lines got stupid long last year during the middle of the day. I can only imagine if everyone crushed at those lines instead of bottle sharing.

I'm not into beer the same way a lot of people on this site (or at Dark Lord Day) seem to be, but I have a great time drinking what's on tap. If I want to drink bottles with friends I do it on a day that there's not an event, but I think this puts me in the minority.

Here's the thing I find confusing. On the FAQ, under How Many Tickets Can I Purchase?, it says "Admission ticket sales will be limited to 2 per person. Dark Lord allocations will be per person not per ticket however."

I'm interpreting that to mean that if I buy 2 tickets, my buddy and I will have to split a single allocation. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems different than what FFF has done in the past. Is the 2nd ticket basically a $40 metal concert with good beer? Was looking forward to going for the first time, but it doesn't seem worth it unless I can score my own ticket.
What that means is I can purchase up to 2 tickets when they on sale. I can use one of the tickets for myself and the other ticket for a buddy. Both tickets will have my name on them as purchaser and I have to be present when the guest enters the grounds with the second ticket. We will then each have the opportunity to purchase the allocation. So given the 4 bottle allocation this year, I can purchase up to 4 bottles and my buddy can do the same. We will also both receive a scratch off ticket with the chance of winning a BA DL (to purchase).

What "Dark Lord allocations will be per person not per ticket however." means is that I cannot show up with two tickets myself and purchase 8 bottles. Another person has to be holding that second ticket to get that ticket's allocation.

Awesome summary. I found this to be very confusing last year as well.

@ppohio posted a link to this site in another thread but noticed some Nick Floyd comments re: DLD within another article there. This might be known info but I don't recall seeing it in this thread. Interesting on the expanded property and the potential for an additional 3 to 4k attendees (GA or "beer lover"? I'm guessing more likely the former).

    http://www.craftbeer.com/craft-beer-muses/5-biggest-beer-releases-2015

Details of Dark Lord Day and ticket sales will be announced by St. Patrick’s Day. Co-founder Nick Floyd says the brewery plans to offer a general admission ticket and a “beer lover’s” ticket that will include the chance to purchase up to “probably three or four” 750 ml bottles of Dark Lord. There will be a “huge lineup” of musical acts and other variants of Dark Lord stout available.

Dark Lord Day is the most iconic single-day release event in the craft beer industry.

Last year about 10,000 Dark Lord diehards flocked to the brewery grounds, and this year – having purchased more property in the industrial park it calls home – 3 Floyds should be able to accommodate another 3,000 to 4,000, says company co-founder Nick Floyd.

When asked if 3 Floyds would ever consider expanding to a full weekend event, Floyd chuckles and says: “For one day it stops traffic for miles around. I don’t think we could do it two days without getting run out town.”

This is the 12th year overall and 10th in bottles for Dark Lord, which the brewery bills as a “demonic” Russian-style imperial stout. For those fortunate enough to score a few bottles, Floyd recommends laying them down for a while.

“If I bought Dark Lord,” he says, “I wouldn’t drink it for probably two years.”

ANOTHER few thousand people? Jesus Christ. It was already oversold last year.

You can forget about guest taps this year unless you're willing to wait 1-2 hours for a couple pours.

I don't understand where all the bitching about taps is coming from. The longest I waited for a pour last year was ten minutes.

Yeah maybe at 10:30am. They were packed all afternoon. Or maybe you're thinking of 2013 when it was easy breezy all day?

Another few thousand is just laughable. And it's obviously going to be all GA. Ugh.

I'm talking last year, '14. People serving had no problem walking over a tent or two for a tap which saved time. I had no problem at any time during the day at the taps to the side of the stage.
