I was thinking about this today, obviously 12 oz cans and bottles are here to stay, as are 16 oz cans, 22 oz bombers, etc. What other containers would you want to see?

    My ideas:
-Big beers (stouts, barleywines, IIPAs, etc.) in 6-8 oz cans/bottles (so you can have less without opening the bottle)

-For breweries that have a thousand house beers an 8 oz can variety pack with a ton of different beers. Saranac did something similar to this with a mixed 12 pack with 6 different beers. I liked the variety that came in one package.

I also think cans should just replace bottles permanently, but that's just personal preference.

If you could make any beer packages, what would you make?

I could go for a 6-8 oz can for stouts...then again, that'd probably mean I'd drink two in one sitting

How about one of those 5L boxes that they sell cheap wine in. It would be perfect. Sealed and has it's own little tap.

I think it's highly dependent on the beer that said container will hold, but damn I do love 16oz cans.

Personally I would like to see fewer formats, particularly with removing the larger formats. (Not trying to reignite the large format discussion here.)

The smaller the format the more packaging material tends to be involved which makes beer more expensive and often requires acquiring a separate line for the different size/packaging. That's why many breweries have not switched to cans.

Give me a Maß for anything under 7%...and it's still good for a few items over that, too.

I think bombers need to go away. Not a fan of the 16 oz. cans either, not sure why those were ever made? I think 12 oz. is the perfect size for anything! why anything else? I don't like big beers because if its a super heavy or high alcohol beer I don't want to be forced to drink it all or have to use a stopper and save some for the next day.

I like that idea, wouldn't be to bad with a decent IPA or something for camping

And it'll fit perfectly in the fridge without taking up too much room that bottles would.

One of my problems is most glassware is made for 12 oz. beers so having a 16 oz. and leaving that little extra in the can so your next is a 3 or 4 oz. pour is just stupid. Or you split it up evenly so you have 2 8 oz. pours.

A lot of people like bombers. Perfect size for me. Actually, they are too small if anything. Why do you want everyone to suffer your opinion?

Because a lot of people wanted them, and like them.

Because some people have a different opinion than you, and they buy beer, too.

But you want to force people to buy the size that *you* prefer?

You should start a new thread and ask how everyone else tackles this "problem".

Yes, absolutely! It is the Way of the Internet!

For me (old geezer that I am) 12 oz is perfect. It is the right size for 1 beer and stop. It is the right size for 2 beers without getting sloshed. It is the right size to have 2 different beers.

Two 12 oz beers more or less equals one bomber, but you get to choose whether you want 2, and if so, do you want 2 of the same beer.

Since the USA craft brewers basically do not make any legitimate* session beers (or very few... Surly Bitter Brewer being one exception), 16 oz is OK for one, but too much for 2 if you just want a beer or 2 without getting buzzed too much (i.e for the typical 6%+ craft beer).

Problem is, most craft beers are available in exactly one size, hence the comments like "bombers should go away". Personally, I would prefer that those beers that are in bombers ALSO be available in smaller packages (but they aren't).

    ---

*A legitimate session beer is one that is tasty, not a one trick pony taste-wise, and at 4% AVB +/- a little. Most so-called "session" beers in the USA are either 5% or so or are thin hop-bombs or both (looking at you, Session IPA).

Right, those are all MY opinion and last time I checked I am entitled to my own opinion. This thread asked what size I think is perfect so I stated my opinion. You can like whatever size you will, don't bash others because they don't like what you do.

The Ship Inn in Milford actually used to do this in addition to growlers.

Keep in mind, smaller packages = higher $$$ per oz.

I didn't bash anyone. I simply explained that other people prefer different size bottles than you do, which answers your question as to why they exist. You are entitled to your opinion, and other people to theirs. Hence, multiple bottle and can sizes exist in the market. That is exactly my point. Understand?
