Yeah, I guess I looked in my fridge and thought, "Man, I should drink those soon," then thought, "But why? What's the rush? It's Wednesday."

The oldest beer here is 12 days from canning/bottling. I'm just assuming there are a lot of people that would have finished them all by now.

I have a similar feeling when I have the ability to buy IPA/DIPA that I don't normally have access to. I just keep them in the fridge and try not to let "freshness" dictate my drinking schedule. If I notice a change in flavor/quality I will just keep it in mind for the next trip to the store. The worst is when you have a bottle of Enjoy By rapidly approaching its date and force yourself to drink it like it will self destruct a day past the bottle date.

If they come to you fresh, and under a week old. Enjoy a couple right of the bat, and push some back to get some mellowness around the edges and that sweet pocket.
if they are in the month pocket. Full bloom drinkers. Get on em.
Two months. Just drink and enjoy.
Three months. Keep on drinking, but expect a diminishing returns beginning for some big hop aromatics
Four months. A balance of hop and malt aroma?

Worried is the wrong word. I was curious as to when most people try to drink by.

I know 12 days is super fresh. My point being we're kind of implored to "drink right away or the beer will self-destruct."

    Cheers.

dont buy into the nonsense around here that if its over a couple weeks old it will be shit. some people arent satisfied unless they are sucking the bottling line hose. if u have some multiples of the same beer maybe do a bit of experiment on your own. that could be fun.

I have to add that I tried my first Furious about 3 days ago and the can was dated mid january so approx 6 weeks from canning to my mouth and it was very bad - no head and almost dead flat. I had an Abrasive with similar dates and it held up well. At this point it was one incident for me and i will give Furious another try in the future

“…no head and almost dead flat.”

In other BA threads other folk have posted similar things about Surly canned beers recently. It has been mentioned that Surly experienced some issues with a new canning line they installed a few months ago.

It is likely the problem you experienced is a bad batch of Surly beer.

    Cheers!

Just cluing you in Jack- it's almost time for another installment of my Dirt Wolf aging experiment. This time I will be comparing refrigerated 3+ month old DW against a bottle from the same 4-pack that was sitting at room temperature. I'll post the results on WBAYDN, most likely on a Sat. night. I'll see if I can do it blind and really see if I can tell the difference.

A lot of how long the beer will last in your fridge depends on what it went through from the end of the packaging line in the brewery to when it reached your fridge.

I've opened refrigerated cans of Jai Alai 9-12 months after buying them, and it was still a magical elixir. Just my $0.02.

What about an Oak Aged Yeti (Imperial Stout) from Great Divide brewing company which was bottled on September 22, 2014? I was thinking about picking it up today but bought a "fresher" beer instead (La Fin Du Monde...which was my first time trying it and it was great).

Oak Aged Yeti is one of my favorites, but I find it pretty harsh when it's fresh (i.e. less than 6 months old). I'd buy it and sit on it until the 2015 release and compare the two.

Most of the beer I've consumed in the last 8 months or so (Tree House) has been less than 7 days old. While there's definitely "taking freshness too far", I also think there's an amazing difference between "uber" fresh, and merely "just" fresh

I have a quick question. Okay, I've been thinking about trying Firestone's Parabola for the first time this year. My question is how good is it off the shelf? On account of me not having a legit cellar where I can age the beer, I'm thinking of drinking it the same day of purchase or let it sit in my fridge until that special occasion. Any suggestions or comments?

Edit: I just read the thread on Parabola 2015 and found the answer to my question. Has anyone buried their beer in a zip-lock bag in order to age it?

Sorry for (temporarily) hi-jacking this thread.
