I noticed over the past year or so they started to creep up on their on-site barrel beer prices. At first it was sticking to the $1/oz price, usually with 5 or 6oz pours and places like Parry's, Hops and Pie and Freshcraft went along with it too.
I was always critical of Rackhouse Pub for jacking those same beers up to $10-12 for 6oz pours. But it seems Avery decided to follow Rackhouse's lead instead of the other way around.
I'm sure it has something to do with storage space = $ (I wouldn't be surprised to hear Avery employees went through i Six Sigma Lean training, or something like it), rarity, demand and so on to justify the sudden and significant increase.
Though I find it a bit confusing when you can sometimes get those exact same bottled beers from their cooler for $12. Or a 6er of Ellies for $9. That would be 72oz for half the price of the 64oz growler.

Maybe if sales falter they'll change. But since this pricing strategy has been on the rise, I'm guessing they are OK with it. They probably aren't in any kind of rush to sell the barrel series beers since they know down the road they can sell these kegs at a premium without any issue.

The tap room only one-offs and specialty beers, I get that. I won't necessarily spend $44 on Mayan Goddess even though I do really like it. But I understand it.
Jacking the prices on something that can still be purchased retail? That's a head scratcher.

Avery's prices have been steadily increasing the passed couple of years, across the board. They are one of the most expensive breweries I've been to at this point. While I'm not exactly thrilled about it, at least it's justified. They make some of the best beer around.

What irks me is new breweries following suit. If you're charging the same prices as Avery, your beer better be at least close. What's with the $6/pint prices becoming more popular?!

I know people are paying these prices now but I think the time is coming where people are going to get enough and there will be some push back. $16 six packs? $12 12oz bottles? Is this something people are going to continue to spend money on in the long term? I may be off, but it seems to me that these high priced beers have become the fad over the last 3 years. There is a fun aspect of craft beer with trying new things but at a certain point you have had basically everything and the only thing that really changes is the name on the bottle. At that point, you start looking at value for price. You start to ask yourself if you really enjoy that $16 six pack twice as much as the $9 one(with $9 becoming a rarity now). I think this will change the craft beer landscape some. It's a money grab right now for a lot of breweries and while I am not hating on them for doing it(it is a business at the end of the day despite what some of y'all think), i think the time is coming where these high end beers will become like luxury items that aren't wildly sought out but instead bought occasionally. I am pulling this out of my rectum because I don't know any breweries business model, but I would guess that most breweries need to sale volume to survive. Most breweries need the 6 pack a day drinker to buy their beer to make ends meet(profitable) and they are starting to price those guys out.

I don't think MBC is afraid of craft beer. Those guys are probably the smartest guys in the room and capable of making anything they want. Yes they have lost market share but I don't think they have lost profit margin. They are seeing what is going on with pricing and margins in craft beer and they want in. They are starting to make better products that are middle tier and ready to welcome the 6 pack drinker who wants a better tasting product(or one with any taste) than MBC but doesn't want to pay craft beer's new prices.

I am basing this on that I mostly do all my drinking at home off of sixtel kegs. I have been waiting for Superpower to reup for a few weeks so I have been buying 6 packs and bombers and the amount of money I spend now is just astounding to me.

Anyone thinking of buying an Avery growler should just not do that and drive 5 minutes to Powder Keg and buy their growlers, they're the coolest things ever, EVER. I'm not even talking about beer here, if you only own one growler... They'll be selling a CO2 tap attachment (replaces the cap) eventually too, told me it'd be about $40.

Best part is its 67.5 oz, so that Tweak you buy will only be $1.48/oz now. Avery is going all **** though, so they might be automatically cutting off the pours at 64 oz with their new fancy-schmancy machine. Maybe their even getting all super-business and cutting off the pours at ~55 oz to "leave room for head." All of this is pure speculation/messing around of course, just hard not to feel insulted with their growler prices. "We have this huge building now! Take a gander at my gold-encrusted middle finger!"

if it did, I'd assume it's no more than $10 for the growler (64oz of Ellie's & Joe's for $8 seems about right) so.... it's still $90 for Tweak, Pump[ky]n & Rumpkin?

i also thought menus only show fill prices and at the bottom they tell you how much to add for glass/growler.

Sucks there's no 32oz option. Oh well, at least I know I'll get to try Rumpkin and Pump(ky)n when I visit this weekend. Haven't had those yet. I'll just stick to getting my growler fills at Comrade and Mockery.

Hi, folks... It's been a while. Turns out that moving everything from 11 buildings into a single building takes a lot of long days. There's barely time to drink beer.

Obviously we also opened the new restaurant and tap room, which is a whole new adventure. And we are still figuring things out as we go. One of those things is the pricing on growlers, and it looks like we didn't do quite enough research on that one. As of yesterday we altered the prices on growler fills to get them more in line with other breweries. Core beers like IPA and White Rascal go to $12, then it scales up depending on strength, tap room specialties, and so forth.

Also...we are working on getting some 32 oz growlers. I believe it's just a matter of getting a vessel that works with our counter pressure growler filler, which can be a little trickier than filling them with a tube. But it also means that the growler can hang out in your fridge just like bottles and cans, as the filler will keep almost all of the oxygen out of there. But once it's open, you want to finish that sucker.

While growlers aren't really my area, I thought I'd chime in here to let you all know about the change. We had been looking at our prices already as we dial things in, but getting some feedback from BA is very helpful. 'Tis much appreciated. Especially any comment that made me laugh.

Alrighty... time to go fill the first Bolder Weisse barrels in the new facility. Hopefully we'll see you all up there soon. I'll drink with you.

    Rock on.

Not sure on the price point, but I've heard from numerous Avery people that they'll be in 4-packs.

Canned Liliko'i is going to be the shit. Best frou frou beer in CO - and that isn't a bad thing. I love that stuff. Stick your pinkie out and embrace it.

maybe she was misinformed, but my server at the taproom told me Lilikoi was still 3 months away b/c they are "still figuring out the recipe". I hope she was just clueless.

I really liked the new spot, but don't get why you'd build such a huge new facility and make the taproom so small. There was an hour wait for a seat at both bars...
