Firestone Walker? They age a bunch of different beers, for various lengths of time, they've gotta have a bunch of barrels stashed somewhere.

I would think Goose Island has the biggest.

Volume? Have to agree that its Goose Island. In terms of variety? I would thrown Perennial/Side Project's name into the ring.

I would guess GI, but The Bruery barrel ages almost everything it seems.

I'm just pointing out that I'm aware that ABI makes BCBS. I'm just not aware of any other beers they barrel age, under the Goose Island brand. Any of the Belgiany things? Across ABI's entire international portfolio, I have no doubt that there's a lot of beers I'm unaware of. ABI will have more barrel product in the pipeline now that they have the the 10 Barrel and Elysian brands.

Firestone makes wine too so they would have lots of wine barrels to use and trade.

Well we can start with a 130,000 square foot warehouse. How many breweries could fill that with something like BCBS and its variants?

And then here it is possible to tally up the total number of barrels of BCBS and variants produced for the 2013 release..

I would have guessed Firestone Walker as well just based on the amount of barrel aged beer they put out each year and the variety of barrels they use. Goose Island surely has a lot, but I only know of the one beer they make that is barrel aged. The Bruery would certainly be up there.

Not sure if it's the largest, but Firestone Walker is the BEST, IMO.

So, 3000 barrels per batch and at least 2 batches (one going in, and one coming out) in barrels at the same time. That's a lot of barrels, anyway ya look at it. I wonder, for example, how many barrels at a time a large distillery would use? And, maybe we shouldn't be sending 98% of the old bourbon barrels to those scotch makers!

We're not anymore (unless there's an existing contract). Also there is a rising demand for Bourbon so there is actually a shortage of new barrels which will eventually lead to a surplus of used barrels and the price of used barrels will go back down again.

When I was at GI a year ago, I think they had 10,000 bourbon barrels and 3,000 wine barrels and they were expanding their barrel aging. I'd be surprised if anyone has more.
