Well it seems I missed yet another special beer release.
Last time it was the 120 minute IPA...this time it was the Patio Pils.
So...seeing as these kind of beers generally sell out the same day they arrive my question is how are you guys keeping up on what days the beers are stocked?
I notice a lot of breweries have facebook accounts where they release info, but often they release the info a few days or even weeks before it hits my local store (Total Wine).
There is another local place who maybe I could make friends with to get the phone calls when they get bottles in, but he charges $3-4 dollars more than Total on his products and doesn't always get what Total does.
Do I need to make a friend at Total to stay informed or perhaps get some reserved automatically?
I do know the beer guy there gives homebrew classes, maybe I can start going and buddy up to him.

Sorry I'm ranting...so what do you guys do to stay in the know?

I don't bother. Costs too much time and energy to worry about it. So I have a few shops I visit regularly to check out the stock and if I miss something, well there will be another something along. Sort of like streetcars and buses and attractive members of the opposite sex....

Staying in the know for me is following 1 twitter account so I don't miss killer tappings such as black note yesterday.

I reluctantly opened a Twitter account and added all the local bottle shops and breweries, which I try to follow. And I get regular emails from some of my favorite bottle shops and reguarly check their websites for updated listings. I also follow BA, especially my regional forum, for release news and upcoming events. And I just drop into stores randomly whenever I have time. So far I haven't missed any beer that I was really interested in. Then again, beers seldom completely sell out the same day they're released all around town here. That helps a lot.

Haven't really had to "make friends" with any store clerks, although I always enjoy a brief conversation about beer whenever I stop in. That should never be a prerequisite to getting the beer you want.

Little bit of Facebook, little bit of twitter. Healthy helping of BA and BeerPulse too. I admittedly read a bit too much about beer but just keeping your eye on a "beer news" site like BeerPulse can help greatly.

By "make friends" you mean that you will feign interest in someone so that they could do you favors?
Sounds great. Who wouldn't want to be your friend?

This from the lawyer who talks (and drinks) beer with judges to get favorable rulings for his clients

    LOL what feign?
I'm legitimately interested in beer as they are too. I homebrew too so the class would be a benefit, bottled my saison two days ago.
I just want to know what you all are doing, no need to respond with a facetious attitude.

To everyone else - Thanks for the feedback =)

I read that as OP goes to total Wine and has never bothered to "chat with" anyone there. However, he is willing to "chat with" them if he can get something out of it. Call me a cynic.

Ok let's not get off topic. If you think my thread is stupid go ahead and ignore it. Don't come in to post cynical comments.

Well there's your problem right there.
They probably hide the new releases from you.

isn't this cynical and off topic? at least i was talking about beer.

back on topic, i talk with the employees at the bottle shops and keep my ear open at brewpubs and stay active in the BA local forums. alot of bottle shop employees and distributors are also (gasps) BA's.

I sleep in between the cases of beer in the back of the store the night before the beer truck arrives.
