Bad Trader: Cestlavie

Eh, hindsight is 20/20. I got my beers and then some. The first 3 months of delay was due to label approval. A portion of the last month was waiting for the other guy to ship Framboise Noir (which may have been a lie on his part, who knows). The "stringing along" is how I would have described the period between when I shipped and when he shipped, which was only 3 weeks. I was still new to trading back then, and didn't want to destroy his reputation after he was so generous to me. There could have been perfectly legitimate reasons for his bad communication or inability to ship, and I didn't want to assume the worst in him.

 

Not allowed, will get banned.

 

It can't be stated enough that retaliatory feedback can be punished up to a ban. There is nothing to worry about there.

 

Maybe like a sex predator has to be registered, a signature could be automatically added to every post they make that says "I welched on a trade, see the thread about it here <link>"

 

Not just that, but the retaliatory feedback can be removed as well. No harm to your rep to worry about.

 

No judgement, seriously, but did you really trade three Bomb! and three Noir for a King Henry and a Rose de Gambrinus?

 

This was early in the Bomb game remember, they used to have trade value. I had a full case of it and asked him how much he wanted. That was the number on which he landed. Also it was a pre-trade on the noir, wasn't yet known there would be infection problems.

 

I guess what bugged me was that he kept saying he would send me the box framboise-noir-less and then send it in a separate box later once it arrived. That didn't happen, but at least I got all my beers.

Also, does this make you the closest thing I have to a De Garde hookup?

And the FIBs are the worst, or their so-called reputation is (I personally have met and drank with many and they're all first class) so imagine how hard it will be to trade with Ryan after he moves

Considering the geographic location, first name of Barry, and shoddy trade dealings, it's hard not to wonder whether this guy has existed around here before under an alternate - more infamous - handle.

The prospect of this would be incredibly mind-blowing, but I don't think it's the case. Looks like the last names don't match up. Facebook link for Craft Beer Specialists of LI (under the "about" tab) leads to a last name that doesn't start with W.
