Do you guys still enjoy your favorite RIS in the summer months? Do you prefer them a little colder than how you drink them in the colder months?

I have two Ten Fiddy in the cellar and want to break them out this July, which will be 21 months after canning. Should I let them age another year and just go with APA's, IPA's, and Pilsners? All of which I drink year round. I've never gone the strong stout route in during summer weather here in NYC. I also prefer my DIPA's colder, like DFH 90 Min. Very smooth....

Curious to see who prefers higher abv stouts in the warmer months.

I definitely get into more of an ale mood, but I can always find a time and place for a delicious stout. But I suggest you drink those Ten Fidys next year alongside a fresh batch, it'll be a fun comparison.

I personally like RIS in the summer, but would drink one and save one.
If you really want to drink them both buy a fresh one and drink it and one of the aged ones.

I drink everything all the time right now. And our heat indexes reach 115-plus here in July/August. But I'll drink the biggest, fattest, booziest stout right in the middle of it.

i dont mind lighter stouts in the summer. I can get down on a ice cold milk stout or cold porter. And i have one stout i can drink almost everyday which is stones RIS. I dont know what it is about that beer but i can drink that any day lol. Cheers!

I like my stouts and others all year round. Even in 80 degrees I will still drink me an imperial stout!

I do enjoy heavier stouts and porters in cooler air, but where I live, even warm summer days are usually followed by cool nights. And since I do nearly all of my beer drinking outside on a porch or deck, I am particularly sensitive to the temperature changes in relation to the beer I'm drinking. I drink most styles year-round, but I definitely crave IPAs more in the summer and stouts more in the winter.

Not when I'm outdoors. I don't mind drinking them when I'm inside in an air conditioned bar or house.

Foreign stouts, which fall just below imperial stouts in strength, are famously traditionally popular in tropical regions. Think Sri Lanka's Lion Stout or the popularity of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout in the Caribbean and Africa.

I'm sure weather has some effect on it, but I drink with my mood. I'm sometimes in the mood for a giant stout in the middle of summer. Then sometimes I'm in the mood for a Saison or something very summer like in the dead of winter.

Can't imagine drinking something like an RIS in the middle of a hot summer. Presumably you folks in warmer climates must refrigerate the crap out of high octane beers before pouring into a class. I know I would.

I wouldn't say that I prefer them during the Summer months but I still continue to drink big stouts when it's warm outside just not quite as often.

While hefes and all wheats get their love in the summertime, i love my stouts (as my name suggests). A slightly colder, thick chocolate or vanilla stout/porter just seems right because you can imagine those flavors in ice cream and that makes it way more sensible. And adds to my justification to enjoy them year round

    so stouts aren't considered "ales"?
