Well, TG has done it... they wanted this to be top secret, stealthy, etc, etc, etc...

But what is this beer? A new BA stout? An old one with extensive aging?

I've heard plenty so far. A bunch of claims.. no proof...

Assassin aged for an extra 9 months in the same Pappy barrels...

Barrels that were rejected from the original Assassin blend...

...and a bunch of other people pissing in the wind with a bunch of claims that may or may not be real...

Does anyone actually, really know what this beer actually is? Has anyone actually talked to Clark? Discuss, debate, whatever. I'm just curious...

I've been wondering the same thing since apparently everybody and their uncle is after it

I don't have any helpful information other than how it tastes. To me it was what I would describe as a roastier (more charred malt flavor) version of Assassin. I liked it better than the last batch of Assassin, which I wasn't a huge fan of. I have no idea how it got that way (different base beer, more time in a barrel, etc.) but it was a better beer to me.

Somebody should Beer It Forward and give away an SR-71. We all know that won't happen though.

Part of the Solera program. There's a thread in the Midwest forum. Assassin and SR-71 are the same base. SR was aged for nearly 2 years in the PVW 27 barrels. Assassin was 1 year in the barrel. Essentially, same beer, aged longer.

    I don't believe that's correct.

Your right, he probably meant 23. There could have been pappy 27 barrels that were blended into a 23 release but we would never know.

Well the staff at the brewery said Pappy 20 barrels.

Interesting... Thanks for some legit info!..... Odd that he calls it the SR-71 BBRIS program because Assassin is not listed as a Russian Imperial Stout.... Which would make me believe that SR-71 and Assassin are not the same base...

Any more real info out there? Thanks guys

So almost all the ratings on this one are from April 2013 - August 2014, and its a 4.24 avg. Are those ratings even for the "same" beer, or is the bottled version completely different/more mature? I was totally confused why people were offering half their cellar for a 4.24 avg rating beer.

As far as ratings go, people would be wise to wait until after this weekend when some of the Huna day ratings come through.

People are offering up half of their cellars in hopes it will be the next KBBS so they don't have to give up their entire cellar later to get it.

seems like a lot of shilling to me frankly. And a BA score of 92 in that particular style is to me less than impressive.

Comment in the Midwest thread stated it was Assassin that developed off flavors during time in the barrel that was kept in barrels...take it for what it's worth.
