There's a pretty good reason for that... we've funded the new facility entirely through our brewery and banks. No outside investors. That means that we have full control over the beers we make, but it also means there's a finite amount of money that we could use to build this facility. Earlier plans involved a larger restaurant and tap room, but at some point we had to make a decision: use some of that finite amount on the best equipment we could buy, or get less-than-optimal equipment and expand the restaurant side. We went with the former.

I'm honestly not sure if we plan to expand the restaurant in the future... I would assume that we'd like to, but it's not necessarily an easy process. As I mentioned before, everything is a work in progress. We're learning as we go and some mistakes will be made, but fortunately things can always be changed.

As for Lilikoi... the recipe is solid. But making large batches of a beer with fruit in it can be challenging. We've been doing pilot batches with different passion fruit suppliers and different methods of adding the fruit for almost a year now. It looks like we have things dialed in, but there are still a few trials to go. So we're at least a couple of months away from a canned release. We'd love to have it out tomorrow, but we have to make sure we nail it.

    Off to the beer world...

    -Andy

I was surprised at the limited restaurant space as well, especially considering how busy the old one got.
But if the decision was between better beer vs seating, the beer wins every time.

There's still a few months until pool season, so I don't mind waiting for Lilikoi! I'm just glad Avery cares so much about the quality.

The food is damn good and they had something like 25 beers on tap last weekend. If I was closer, I'd probably be there a lot.

It seems like their prices have increased with the move. A pint of New World Porter is approaching the price you can get a six pack of it. They still have the best hoppy beers and sours in town, but I feel I will be visiting some of the other ~15 breweries around more than Avery now.

I completely agree. I bet they'll tweak them back down eventually but gone seem to be the days of Avery being considered inexpensive.

I didn't consciously make the decision, but I've found myself frequenting the other breweries in town much more as well. Avery unfortunately lost some of the townie feel I loved about it. Speaking of which- Sanitas Brewing seems to be the new local spot, at least for me and my friends. They are doing some awesome stuff and have a killer patio.

I completely agree. I remember when Wild Woods moved by and Avery was cheaper than them and I really didn't go back to Wild Woods until they became cheaper than Avery. I don't think think they have to depend on the "local" crowd. They can get away with charging a premium price, but at least locally they are developing a reputation as "money hungry" which I don't think they really want. All this said I will still bring my buddies to the brewery when they are in town.

Sanitas's beer is way better than it was their first six months and they do have the best patio in town by far. I am a big fan of Upslope, but Sanitas is not far behind.

Not sure if I missed someone posting this. If you want a growler fill at Avery you have to buy their growler. Bad enough they get you on the jacked up beer prices then they make you but their merchandize on top of it.

Is there an updated price menu for the growlers somewhere?

That's lame. It seems Avery is going for the cash grab since they moved into their new digs.

This happened to me when I was up there on St. Patrick's day. The prices still haven't dropped. Going up to Longmont May 5th if anything has changed I'll post it here.

...unless you're wanting one offs, etc. I think that Ratman 10000 is a great beer but I'm not gonna plop down the $$ for a growler of it. Sorry, Ratman!! (c:

Those growler prices still bring the lulz but their new raspberry sour bombers for $12 are the truth. I can't think of a better sour for the money.
