Without knowing anything about the beer or brewery, have you bought a beer purely on its label, or name they gave their beer ? I've been working on a label, that has a 'slight' edge to it, and wondered if it will help or hinder my sales when i get to that point.. I guess it depends on the 'edge' right ?
Also, what is the favorite 'name of beer' you've come across ? The craft beer world is a creative group..

Of our beers (Clown Shoes) I think Crunkle Sam is my favorite. As far as another brewery I always laugh about 668 The Neighbor of the Beast.[IMG]

So far nebco has had to change the label of imperial stout trooper because of a cease and decist letter from lucas films, and now they have to change the name and art for gandhi-bot. They might be the kings of "risque'" labels.

Left hand has some sweet labels. I wouldn't buy a beer only based on label without knowing a bit about it or the brewery, but a cool label can never hurt.

    My favorite beer name ever.
I am pretty sure this is the only beer I ever sought out because of the name.
When I see it I always pick some up.

I'm trying to get my hands on a Perc E Bust. Uhh, you know, the beer from Full Pint Brewery. Cute label, too.

Sometimes I trade for beers just for the label.. Bonus if it turns out to be delicious. Example: 18th Street Undercrown.

If a beer's label is too risque, rightly or wrongly I tend to assume that the beer was made just for the label and not really that good

Uggg... a marketing guy using quoted terms such as "slight" and "edge"...

Reminds me of that time my dad put a fart-can muffler on his 1992 Subaru Legacy.

labels play a huge part in me picking beer, I am a graphic designer and a very visual person. But they aren't the only factor. And honestly a "funny" (to you) name or a risque label is not going to make me want to buy your beer more. I think you will have more people NOT want to buy your beer because of a name or label like that as opposed to people that instantly say "i've got to buy this, look it has boobs on it"

It also blows my mind when I see a beer in a shelf with such a bad label, that they aren't even considering they are competing in a huge market with many options. If they aren't a hyped beer, why is someone going to pick your beer up? My boss is a former marketer for Beam and would discuss all the work and focus testing they would go through to try and make a product stick out on a shelf. Not that that has to happen, but come on, try to take it into consideration.

    Labels I like:
    left hand
    modern times
    griffenclaw
    ballast point
    great divide
    stone
there are many more, pretty much look through Oh Beautiful beer... All though too much of the modern aesthetic, then has the opposite effect and they just blend together.

art is subjective like anything though, and I can't stand Clown Shoes. I hate the name of the brewery, i hate the labels.

I don't really like Short's labels either, but i like their beer. And on that thought, about how just having a great beer and putting it in a nice package, and letting the beer sell itself rather rely on marketing gimmicks.

The only time I ever bought beer for the label/ packaging was Delirium Tremens because I had was just 21 and thought it was cool and it turned out I actually liked it...it looked like there might be LSD in it or something...
