    Hey what's going on!?

What a weekend... finally I think done with this concept of winter, crocuses are blooming, snow is gone... and even with a little rain can't dampen my spirits...

What is new for our hero today?!?!?

    ------------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Big bubble bath foamy head, nice and controlled out of the bottle but balloons nicely like rich shampoo lather. Bleach white and bright, and settles to a smaller puck of about a finger, no lacing except for a hanging cling on one side of the collar. Head keeps getting steady action from a glowing pineapple yellow body, opaque, with a hard to see classic fierce rising column of middle carbonation, and some bright lemon yellow hues. Excellent looker in the glass.

Once again a great saison nose. Tropical hinting notes of pineapple too match, light dry yeast, floral and a bit of ripped hay to go with it. Real nice hint of sweet green herbs as well, mild pepper too. Excellent aroma.

Palate brings those Krebs saison goodness. Big tropical fruit notes, hinting pineapple but even a hint of peach without the sweetness. Saison dryness kicks in with mild pepper almost white hot but much sweeter. Fun front tingling carbonation on the tip of the tongue, giving some nice champagne like qualities. The mouthfeel is just near perfection with playfulness, density, and a touch of sweet chewy malt. Dense finish but also nice and juicy exposing a great sensing tropical hop like quality it seems. Apricots and nectarines really come out, some Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling like grape quality, even some wine Chardonnay butter just a touch as well.

Overall just another delicious tasting Prairie saison to add to the arsenal.

Had a big blast on Friday, going to my cooking class of Peruvian flavors at L'academie de Cuisine in Bethesda MD. Excellent chef and instruction and staff, and boy made some tasty food.

Greetings, fellow NBSers & thanks to @utopiajane for starting us off,

It's a drizzly noon in the city of lilacs and marmots, and the only brew I've had thus far is my usual unadulturated cup of coffee before seeing to a few household chores. After getting off work around 1PM on Friday, I foolishly came back to work to fill in for someone the following midnight, and totally threw my sleep schedule out of whack, so this is really the first time this weekend I've felt back to normal.

After lunch, I'll be hitting my first beer of the day. A few weeks ago, I suggested we do a NBBS (New Bad Beer Sunday), and while a couple of people thought it might be fun, my proposal was mostly met with stony silence. I've a long history of obstinately going through with what other think are bad ideas, so I've decided to go ahead and do it on my own. I'll be hitting a mass market adjunct lager with widespread distribution, once brewed in the midwest and now brewed elsewhere in the midwest by somebody else (I believe I've actually had it before in a bar years ago, and think it gave me heartburn, but I've certainly never bought a can and reviewed it). Regardless of whether it turns out to be bad or not, I'll be following it up with a new beer I expect to like, a barrel-aged version of a rye saison from a local brewery.

Admittedly, I don't particularly care for grapefruit, but, I thought this beer was overpoweringly grapefruity.

It's not all that spring-like today, but we are in the midst of a thaw so I figured I'd walk the back forty . Of course, hard work like that requires a beverage and I have just the thing to put me in a warmer frame of mind-

Pretty straightforward, but very enjoyable all the same; not too tart, not too salty, the flavoring is subtle. It's made for drinking in quantity for sure. I can't wait to put it to the real test one of these days . B+ (3.75)

I may as well drop this one on you guys-

New American Peanut Butter Porter Sunday (week 525)

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in a 'melting slowly but steadily' Mid Hud Val NY. Crazy day at work, soooooo much material was rescued and sent on, but I am one thirsty man and truth told this beer is not doing it for me. It isn't a bad beer, it is tasty in its way but the peanut promised in the name is less than one would want. It's there in the nose, but not so much in the taste. Some technical flaws but all in all a decent beer I am glad I am getting a chance to sample. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Trying Where the Helles Summer? for the first time today. Fitting since it's cold and windy today. Anyway, this is a very good helles lager. Very light in color. Faint herbal aroma. Bready, lightly hopped. Crisp and light bodied. Very tasty and would be a good warm weather beer.

How's it going, guys and gals? A mix of crazy work and family stuff and a few awful commutes left me exhausted by the end of the week. Luckily, I did not have much planned for the weekend so I'm taking some time to recharge at home. Went out for a nice dinner last night but ended up sharing a bottle of wine, which left me craving beer today!

Deep gold in color and clear with a slight haze. Large, fluffy white head with a fair amount of lacing. Things really start to get interesting in the aroma. Some light grassy hops hit you first, but then give way to a huge fruity notes. Tons of grape and blackberry with some cherry, pineapple, pear, and banana in the mix as well. Bready malt and some musty yeast round things out. Medium bodied with a thick texture and a bit of a metallic finish.

Overall, I'm really enjoying this beer. It's a unique take on the Kolsch style, to say the least, and falls somewhere in between a Kolsch and a bock for me, especially given the 7% ABV. The fruitiness is strong and cannot be ignored. One six-pack is probably enough for me, but I'll be looking for it next year if they brew it again. Cheers, BA!

First post on NBS. Dark brown pour and mellow bourbon in the nose. Tastey mix of bourbon and chocolate mostly. Some coffee-like bitter aftertaste. A bit thin and carbonation is on the low end of medium. Overall, a pretty good BBA stout and quite drinkable.

First time posting in New Beer Sunday, so here goes:

Lost Abbey Track #8 (Number of the Beast)

Illegible bottle date, but purchased in late October 2014. Decanted into two glasses in a single pour with significant sediment in second glass. Review of the main glass.

Pours a extremely dark yet clear ruby red when held to the light. Otherwise pitch black from afar. Practically no head and just a hint of lacing. Some legginess.

Aroma of sugar, biscuit, raisin, cherry, vanilla, and strong Makara cinnamon. Sweetness overall.

Taste of dried fruit, caramel, cinnamon, and a touch of oak. Some slight hint of chile in the flavor, but none of the heat. Chile does become a bit more prominent as the beer warms. In all honesty, bourbon notes are present, bit alcohol seems well hidden for a ~14% beer.

Slightly thick mouthfeel, but not quite syrupy. Lively carbonation that is a bit unexpected.

In sum, an excellent beer that achieves the desired goal--Track #8 really does smell and taste like an oatmeal raisin cookie in a glass. Judgement Day is still discernible as the base beer, however, and the barreling is well balanced. I'm not sure it recognizable as a quad, bit it is nonetheless an excellent beer. Savor and sip slowly.

Badgers down by 1 at the half. Need to pour it on in the second.

New Galrus Cabin Fever has aromas of sweet German malts with honey on a biscuit. Some grain and grassy notes.

The flavor is very sweet with German malts shining. A nice biscuit covered in honey flavor. Slight grassiness along with light hops on the finish.

    Happy NBS everyone!

It's sunny and warmish (50s), here in NWI. So a nice day. Got out this morning for a bit. Decided after watching Chef on netflix that I wanted to try my hand a Cuban sandwiches. Got the pork shoulder marinating right now...

Today I've decided to crack open one I recently got in a trade. Figured I'd open up a nice stout since the GF came up from TX for the week. We hit up Chicago yesterday for St. Pat's and had a grand ole time.

    4 Hands Bona Fide
    [IMG]

    Great coffee stout.

Pours a pitch black with nice mocha caramel colored head.

Smell is nice roasty coffee. Some semi sweet chocolate.

Taste follows the nose. Roast coffee with some nice light cream in it. Nice chocolate flavor on the back end. Not overly complex but I'm not complaining. Just a very well made beer,

Mouthfeel is nice and creamy but not heavy.

Overall a great beer and one that I'm glad I can share.

Been on the mend after being on Maui for a week where i believe some snotty nosed kid on the plane back to NorCal got me sick. All week my voice has been a wreck and the coughing has been hell. @WesMantooth thinks I got sick for all of my Maui view posts, but I digress.
This beer however, is anything but hell...
I live maybe 20 miles from the brewery and while I was sure I'd eventually find a bottle or two, their "extremely limited" distro'd on this had me spooked. But like I said, I usually have an ace in the hole.
After 40 miles on the bike, I rode to my spot and sure enough, there she was, $8.99
    [IMG]
Sweet, smooth and oh so tasty!
You'll have to pardon my brevity but my nose still feels like I did an 8-ball last night and while my tasting and smelling senses are muted, this beer is awesome.
The bourbon, while noticably present, isn't kick you in the teeth. It's just what the doctor ordered.
It's got a slight bit of the coffee as advertised. Think KBS (I went there). And that as I read it is a knock (unintended) as I think KBS, while good, is supremely over rated. Release time a coincidence...? This beer is NOT over rated!
The lacing on my glass, while a tad thin, is still good. But who buys beer based on the lacing?
    And the kicker...$9!!!!
This isn't Parabola by any means (not nearly as chewy) but still is a top tier BA imperial stout. If I were faced with this at $9 and ANY Eclipse variants at $30, I'd immediately grab three of these and take em to the counter.
