Has anyone had it before? It's on tap in Chicago and I'm debating I'd worth the trek to try

Not the BB version. Sasparilla Six is delicious though.

    EDIT: Fountainhead?

IMO...the Sasparilla Six is better then the BB Sasparilla. The BB version seemed to be a mess and took away from the great vanilla and root beer tastes.

    Worth the drive Jeff!

Thanks from me as well. Had Sasparilla Six early this year. Loved it!

It's just the BB version on tap. Not te base. So BB version not worth the hunt Shawn?

Also no, not fountainhead...at least that's not the bar I am talking about

Not saying it's not worth it. It is a Dark Horse beer....all of their beers are "worth it"

And don't forget the IMO part

I love DH brews, and thought Saspirilla Six was amazing. The BA version tasted like a big ole mess to me and I didn't dig it.

I had both at city provisions. The non BA version was very sweet and not complex. The BA version didn't add much to it ... any barrel influence was barely detectable. So my verdict would be not worth it

Really enjoying this thread. Asking if a beer is worth it without saying where it is and actively avoiding telling anyone where it is. Love the Beer Advocacy.

I'm sure if anyone wants it OP will respond via BM. Anyway it's not a great enough beer to warrant subterfuge. And how can one "actively" not do something?

Yeah those were my thoughts exactly.

When someone asks "Fountainhead?" and the OP says no, should everyone post to start the guessing game?

Also, the OP is the dude who asks everyone if there are any "rare beer tappings" going on in Chicago at any chance he gets. He asked if the distributor sent Frangelic Mountain Brown to beer stores early in Chicago.

This is classic "let me get mine first and then maybe I will tell others if the beer is any good."

To be quite honest, no beer is great enough to warrant subterfuge. It's just beer.

    Mmmmmm, superfudge.

It's tough. If you out your favorite tapping you might be a hero to no one and piss people off. If you don't you risk looking like a selfish douche. Regardless, this beer is not worth the trip or subterfuge.

Also I love the "it's just beer" trump card. Particularly when it's pulled at a forum where everyone is here to talk about beer.

Is the Sasparilla Six available in bottle?

If the OP wants to try a good alcohol based root beer go to The Beer Market and try some from a good local brewery.

Sarsaparilla Six (and the BA variety) is a collaboration between Dark Horse and Cleetus Friedman of City Provisions Deli in Ravenswood. As far as I know, it's only been available at CP, Dark Horse, and Fountainhead.
