I just read a long thread here on food and brewery recs which was really informative. I am in town next weekend 3/14-3/16 to run the Asheville marathon at Biltmore Estate. I am limited in time and am trying to do what I can to bring some bottles home. Some specific questions I have:
    1) where, if at all, can I buy hop drop n roll in Asheville?
    2) does greenman and wicked weed sell their bottles to go or is that just for releases?
    3) best brick oven pizza and beer joint?
    4) best/closest brewery to the biltmore estate!!

    Thanks folks!!!!

I would start with Bruisin' Ales. All of their inventory is online and you can place an order very easily. Really nice selection! I just placed my first order online and it was ready for me to pick up - in and out in 5 minutes! They had a great 3 bottle BA Green Man package, Wicked Weed and HDR while I was there.

Highly recommend Sierra Nevada. I think they are having a soft opening starting this weekend for the taproom! They also have BA Bigfoot and 6 year verticals of Bigfoot for sale in the gift shop. The tour is also really awesome. Only 20 minutes south of Asheville too.

Wicked Weed is definitely worth a stop. They only bottle their sour beers at their Funkatorium but you can get growler fills of most of their fresh beers. Asheville Brewing Co. (ABC) is a great place for brews and pizza.

FYI, Burial Beer has a bottle release on the 14th of their Skillet Donut Stout, which you should definitely check out.

Asheville Brewing/Pizza is close too. Great pizza, several solid beers with a few standouts *if* they're around.

Tin Can Pizzeria is really good too. It is a food truck that sets up shop at a couple different locations (The Wedge, Pisgah, Highland as well as some others) depending on the night.

I just got back from my Asheville trip and wanted to really thank the posters here for the advice you gave. The recs were spot on. Appalachian Vinter a great store!! I even bought a shipper there to get my half my beer home! Hit the Skillet Donut Stout release and picked up a few bottles. Biscuit Head was a top notch place! They make like 8 different hot sauces. Hit the spot perfectly after a night of beer. Barleys was so good I ended up there twice in one night. Made to order slices and Sexual Chocolate on tap! Near the airport I closed the trip with a visit to the new Sierra Taproom. Great facility with standard Sierra berrs and about 6-7 variants such as BA Harvest which was incredible. Also scored a experimental vanilla chocalte porter in the gift shop called Audition. It was from Chico but only a few cases existed they said. The Sierra facility is 5 minutes from the airport. Thanks again for great tips here that led to a fantastic trip! Cheers!!

Going to Asheville in a few weeks and this has tons of great info. Thanks!

Do you find that the bars/breweries keep their websites up to date with what's on tap or is it more of a crapshoot when you go in?

Most places keep an accurate tap list online.

Thank you. One more question: I'm travelling with my 10 month old son. Thinking about visiting Wicked Weed, Thirsty Monk, Wedge and Barleys - any of these not kid tolerant? We'll be going to most places in the early afternoon/evening and don't anticipate being out past 6-7PM. Thanks

Barleys is fine with kids.. I took younger twins there for dinner once, and lunch another time.

Wicked Weed I've only eaten at for a 1-2 PM lunch.. didn't wait for a table, and had the kids. They had booster seats there if I recall, and didn't seem to mind the kids, but it wasn't budy.

6-7 PM is prime time, however.

Thanks. I'll likely be wrapping up by 6 and getting on my way. Will probably aim for lunch at wicked weed & hit the breweries when they open at 3/4. I'll be there Mon-thurs which should mean less crowded at those times

Wicked Weed is kid friendly upstairs if you can get a seat. Downstairs is more a beirgarten type atmosphere (shared long tables in a courtyard) and not particularly kid friendly, only because it is usually very crowded and people are typically squished in the community tables. Only time I have been there on a Mon-Thur week was during the middle of winter and there wasn't much of crowd (but it was also like 20 degrees and windy).

The Funkatorium would be a good place for you kid to take a nap in the afternoon if they are getting sleepy. Dark inside and really laid back, quite vibe.

I would say that Thirsty Monk may not be kid friendly. While they have food, it really is just a bar.

Planning on hitting Wicked Weed for lunch mid-week so that sounds like a good option. Hope I can get beer flights upstairs.

Barleys seems like a good option for food & drink

I'll check out the vibe at Thirsty Monk when I pass by and see what I think. Appreciate the tips! Looking forward to the trip.
