Treating those aged 18-20 in our society as 'second class' adults is ridiculous. If you can vote, serve in the military, sign up for $ thousands in student loans, and own/drive cars, then you are an adult and should have both all the privileges and responsibilities of adulthood bestowed.

No minimum. It's the responsibility of the parents, not the government.

The US got along pretty much OK without a minimum drinking age until the 20th century, when the nannies flexed their muscle.

    What's next? Caffeine?

I voted 18 for the above mentioned reasons. 19 seems reasonable too, but it's a prime number. And that shit just ain't natural.

Have you seen how responsible some parents are? The government is a pathetically fragile barrier between civil society and Lord of the Flies.

I agree forget a "legal" drinking age. Most developed countries (Europe) don't even really view it as a big deal, but getting under the wheel is. I blame women for this! Haha. I am kidding but all seriousness most of the prohibition shit that remains today in this country was tied to the Temperance Movement and women's right to vote. I am not saying women don't have the right to vote, they always should have but the women that were working on this got tied up with those evangelicals and temperance unions and some of that crap remains today. I am a proponent of legalizing everything so what do I know, some people will never drink a drop, some will become alcoholics, its just statistics and genetics?

If interested in further reading. There is a lot more but this is kind of what I am getting at.

My argument here is simple: I was only 20 years old when I came home from my first deployment (13 months in Iraq) so I couldn't even go to the bar and have a beer with my friends/family/fellow Soldiers. Explain the logic behind that!

To quote the great Charles Bamforth, "Carrie Nation was an insufferable bitch."

Insufferable Bitch would be a great name for a beer by the way, with Carrie's ugly mug on the label. The old hag would be turning in her grave.

I vote 20 because 18 I think is a little too young, and 21 is somewhat arbitrary. Just round up (er... down) to 20. What's the significance of 21?

Of course thinking it over, there'll be dumb ass irresponsible drunks no matter the age they drink. Hell, have no set legal drinking age.

I don't even think it's a big deal to be honest. If it was 18, cool, if it's 21, that works too. Nothing to get mad about in my opinion. Waiting a few years to go to a bar isn't the end of the world.

18 or 19 is plenty old enough, lets face it the drinking age of 21 doesn't seem to keep people from drinking at 18. It does generate a good many unnecessary criminal records for doing something we all did to some extent.

In fairness, if you're dumb enough to get caught underage drinking, then you deserve a criminal record.

18, either raise the age where you can die for your country or lower the age where you can consume alcohol. I wouldn't mind raising the driving age another year to 17. Another year of wisdom can go a long way. I go back and forth on the drinking and driving ages all of the time, but mostly I think kids are going to drink in college/after high school anyway (a lot of them drink drink at least once during high school years). Accessibility to alcohol on a college campus is pretty damn easy to begin with.

I think everyone should drink before 21. Aside from the aforementioned (and valid) reasons listed above, I literally did not have a hang over in my life until a few weeks after I turned 21. And believe me, it's not because I wasn't drinking.
