My benchmark IPA, the IPA I compare all IPAs to would have to be Long Trail Limbo IPA. If it can come close then I know it's something I really enjoyed.

Not sure if I consider it to be "par", but Boulevard Single Wide is the IPA that I probably drink most frequently. Not sure if I judge all IPAs based on this, but I often use it as a frame of reference for others that haven't tried that many beers.

This thread has me thinking a few things. First, par in golf is a good score. If you shoot even par all the time, you are a very good golfer. The meaning of the word outside the context of golf, however, is a little different. Par means average or normal.

With that in mind, I'm amazed at sheer volume of different responses in this thread.... When people from Florida can say Jai Alai; people from California can say Sculpin or Stone; people from the midwest can say Two Hearted, and they are all right, this indicates to me that we have a lot of great IPAs to choose from.

Anyway, my IPA par is Odell. Very solid, but not a world beater. If you make a better IPA than Odell IPA, you're making a great IPA.

Think of it like par in golf. Just as "par" in golf is pretty damn good, your par beer should be pretty damn good. But of course it can be beaten etc, etc.

Unfortunately not. We had one place in Va Beach that was carrying limited quantities for a while, but that has gone away for whatever reason.

SN Torpedo is the benchmark and now Hop Hunter IPA provides another delicious data point of comparison in the IPA spectrum..

I guess Founders Centennial, although I'd really like to say Ballantine. Ballantine, however, is more my favorite at the moment, and it's really in a class of its own.

Harpoon IPA was always the staple or "par" IPA for me growing up. Now its SN Torpedo. There are so many that are better, but I am never disapointed if I am having a Torpedo!

Yes, this is my par. My favorite IPAs are Blind Pig, Kane Head High, and Troegs Perpetual.

easy there big fella, a 2xIPA is an IPA....

Its at par because its easy to get and I get it a lot, no need to settle for less. Otherwise I've been sipping two hearted, sculpin, nugget nectar, 90/60 minute, and whats left of my hopslam and Jai Alai. Next question my son
