They should lower the lottery age also! In Illinois it's 18 to play the lotto. I can die for my country, but I can't win the powerball? BS!

Also renting a car age is stupid too! Same with renting an apartment! Has the whole world gone crazy!

I had my fathers liver when I was young and my mothers now that I am older. He never got a hangover and neither did his dad, but god almighty my mother suffers and I do now too! But I was well into my 30's when that kicked in!

21, I was still a jackass but anything over 21 is out of control. I'm sorry but my friends and I were too inmature for legal drinking under 21.

I was thinking that if you can be tried as an adult you should be able to have a beer!

If you're old enough to serve your country, I believe you're old enough to drink beer.

Let's hear some words from the (as of now) SEVEN people who think the drinking age should be older than 21. Are you just fucking around or what? If you are serious, defend your view.

It doesn't matter what our drinking age is. The type of alcohol use that hurts the community (be it through drunk driving, people that develop alcohol dependence, etc.) isn't being prevented by the age limit of 21. If we dropped the age to 16 we'd still have a bunch of clowns hurting communities with alcohol abuse. The underlying theme to both of these is that Americans aren't really that mature when it comes to alcohol consumption. People shake their fist and say, "kids these days!" Yeah, where the fuck did they learn to act like that? Check the mirror fuck face. Once we as a culture become more mature with it, the drinking age won't matter. Behaviors will change when attitudes change (just like everything else, ever).

Now pardon me, I need to figure out a way to run a hose from the keg in my refrigerated trunk, through the back seat and into the arm rest of my car.

I voted 19 for civilians, but I think the law could put it at 18 for those in the armed forces.

I like the arguments some people are making for 19 years old. It gives a degree of separation to keep it out of high schools but also acknowledges the adulthood of a person of that age.

I voted 18. In my Province (New Brunswick) the drinking age is 19 (along with the rest of Canada besides Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec in which it is 18) but I think that 19 is a bit of an arbitrary number. If a person is legally considered an adult at age 18 and able to vote, etc. shouldn't they be aloud to purchase alcoholic beverages?

I personally think that 21 as a drinking age is ridiculous as you are not only legally considered an adult at 18 and able to vote, but you are also able to join the armed forces and legally purchase tobacco products. How backwards is that?

Isn't any age limit completely arbitrary?

And to the guy that said 19 because his daughter wasn't mature enough in high school but is now in college: do you really want your daughters first experience with alcohol to be away from home at a college party?

For the record, I didn't vote in the poll for the reason listed above. If anyone cares.

On a side note to my previous posts, it has been proven that a higher drinking age (lets say 19 or 21) has the possibility of lowering motor vehicle related deaths among 18 to 26 year olds (according to a study by the University of Northern British Columbia).

7 deaths a year for a drinking age of 19 and 32 deaths for a drinking age of 21.

I personally think that people are going to be irresponsible regardless of the drinking age, therefore resulting in deaths. If people can be responsible with alcohol, I think they should at least have the chance to do so at a reasonable age such as 18.

Don't you think these statistics might have something to do with the fact that minor prohibition of alcohol consumption drives it underground?

I put in 21. And I totally agree with the armed services and drinking age should be the same. 21
