Usually they pour Pliny the Elder as Big Ern said. But sometimes they'll have some others like Damnation. But really, there's so much other stuff to imbibe. Then stumble down to Freshcraft.

Not sure about Boulder, but in Denver, the Cruise Room in the Oxford Hotel (17th and Wazee) has a pretty cool art deco vibe. Also Green Russell in Larimer Square has high-end cocktails - might need a reso there and be prepared to pay $10-15/drink. Also, if you're willing to venue about a mile or so out of downtown, Williams and Graham in Lohi was recently named one of the top 50 bars in the world. Although definitely get a reso at W&G; tried to walk in after an early Friday night dinner the other week and was quoted a 2-1/2 hour wait!

I once had a shot of eggnog bombed into a pint of Ten Fidy at Star Bar. I don't think there's a bar in the state that can make cocktails to match that one.

I'm also drawing a blank on Boulder cocktails. Maybe the West End or the Kitchen Upstairs? They make a mean drink at Frasca, but the bar is tiny and mostly filled with people waiting for a dinner table.

For Denver, I agree with Cruise Room. Love that place. Another option is Colt and Gray, which is an easy walk from Lower Downtown Denver. I haven't been there in a while, but they also used to have a decent beer (mostly bottles) selection and tasty Manhattans.

Bitter Bar, for sure. West End Tavern is also really good.

They were out of Irish cream (and other similar liqueurs) and it seemed like a brilliant idea after drinking 4-5 other beers.

J&L Distilling in Boulder makes some fantastic (and weird) cocktails. Bonus: their 'fyr' is awesome.

If you want great cocktails in Boulder, go to The Bitter Bar. Backcountry is the best taproom for variety of beer by far, and the food is really solid for the price and setting. The Kitchen is on Pearl and has great food and the best bottle list of all the more fine dining joints. Enjoy your stay!

I know it's already been suggested, but the Old Mine has great bottles, taps and cider.

I would check out Hearthstone and Relish. I remember both had excellent beer lists. Relish had Consencration and Supplication in their cellar list.

From a beer related standpoint, is it worth it to stay downtown. What I'm really asking is if we stay downtown will we be within walking distance of multiple beer destinations? I was really spoiled on my visit to Asheville recently and would love to recreate that.

Yes, you will be within walking distance of many beer destinations if you stay downtown. I don't know what the hotel prices are these days, but staying in the heart of the city gives you access to way more without having to drive/taxi/Uber to get around.

Yes, downtown has no shortage of beer places.
With that said, you don't necessarily have to stay there. The light rail can be wonderful, even if it does take a bit of time. But if there's a couple hundred dollars difference between hotels downtown and hotels along the light rail, it may be a good option.
