That just means that Sculpin has a made it to the price epicenter and fast. Ballast Point is distributing pretty largely now, as well. Kidding aside, its all because of BeerAdvocate and one other app; this website is the hype generator, which is why I find all these price complaint threads kind-of ironic. Here we are.

Unfortunately, $2-3 an ounce is steep for an IPA that is largely distributed and cheap to make.

We're all pretty weird in the way we'll consider $17 expensive for a 6er, and then think $7 for a 12oz. of great beer at a bar is a pretty decent price. Is the bar THAT great?

Oh no, per bottle it comes out to 2.83. Not per ounce. That'd have to be a fucking fine beer of gods per ounce.

If I want it bad enough, I buy it. I bought a Utopias for $169 at Costco, still pricey. I bought a "super limited " De Cam Lambic from a local place for 45 bucks, I thought it was slightly above average. Don't even get me started on whiskey. Rationalizing my love for alcohol? I just call it the thrill of the hunt- and at times my pocket hurts more than my palate is satisfied. Embarrassing at times? Sure.

If I know it's fresh I don't mind paying $15.99 here in MD. But most of the time, that is not the case.

$ 2.84 a beer seems fine to me, if it's something good I've been wanting why not? Beer math has opened my eyes when picking up things like a 4 pack of a great RIS for $ 10.00....or $ 2.50 a can....count me in!

If you're not making a few irrational decisions when it comes to beer, you're doing it wrong.

The good news is that Sculpin is way cheaper per ounce, bottle or buzz than a wine of comparable quality. The bad news is that the way the craft beer market is going, it won't be for long. I have a feeling that we'll be saying "remember when Sculpin was under $20 for sixer?" in no time.

this thread is a perfect example of the beauty of the BA site...it captures so much of the essence...

reflection, angst, psychosis...opinions, suggestions...consternation and pontification...and way too much math:confused:

there is not "right"....there is no "wrong" (and those who would like you to believe otherwise present as self-delusional)...there is just the incessant joy of grappling with our collective affliction

of course it all costs "too much"...but we purchase/consume....so we are to "blame"

enjoy and embrace the full scope of opinion/perspective....listen and learn...and make an informed decision/position accordingly..

oh yeah...and drink great beer (the more you drink, the more fine beer you enjoy tasting/experiencing...the less the price concerns you...in my singular opinion)

but then I know less than many...and care less about it...

Cheers all....BA's and the classic moments that are presented

I'm not sure why you're "embarrassed" by this. What's wrong with being frugal? I shop at a kick-ass craft beer case-store by my house, and every time I walk in, I walk right by all of the $40-50 cases that I want to drink, and pull a rack of Hamm's out of the cooler. Is it what I want? No. Is it what I can afford? Yes. Am I embarrassed about this? Absolutely not. A little frustrated perhaps, but certainly not embarrassed.

Yes, Sculpin is overpriced, Should you try it anyway, yes. It is worth trying at least once, although I buy single bottles of it and the varients when they are fresh. Look for single bottles instead of sixer's.

I dislike buying a 6pk of anything I'm not familiar with... what if I don't love it? I now have FIVE more! too much commitment. That's why I love getting a single bottle to try something before buying a pack.

6pks of Sculpin in my area are usually priced around $15.00, so yeah I usually walk by it and look at it, hoping one day I will get to try it...haha

Thats ridiculous sounding, sculpin is 13.99 for a 6 pack here. I don't buy them, because there are better beers for better prices. However I just shelled out $75 for a 2013 apple brandy mexican cake at the brewery, gotta spend money sometimes to enjoy good beer.

Sculpin is a middling brew to begin with, the price here has back trekked a bit, but $14 is still pricy for a beer that doesn't set your hair on fire. Thats pricy for Ca and it's cheaper in Nc ? Sup with that, unless you pay more for fresh beer , and I don't get that here.
