I am pretty excited to hear about this club but the price is absolutely insane. He is asking for $72.00 a month for 6 to 12 beers, shipping prices not included. When you have exclusive, high regarded clubs like The bruery reserve society and Perennial's societe that go for less than $300 a year, how can they justify $864 dollars a year?

I don't think that is a terrible monthly price if you enjoy their beers and want access to the tougher stuff as well. Their 12 oz beers retail around me for 12-14$ each which I thought was pretty pricey. However, if you get at least 6 beers per month then it's a wash with anything extra being essentially "free" based on retail pricing. It just depends how much you like the brand.

I hear what you're saying, I just think that when you compare it to something like the Bruery reserve society, it pales in comparison to the quality you are getting for the price. You could essentially have 3 memberships to the society for one Mikkeller club entry.

Things in Denmark are expensive, especially alcohol which is taxed heavily.

Things from Denmark sent half way around the world become even more expensive.

Believe it or not, US prices don't translate to the rest of the world.

Yeah, but you get a koozie after 3 months! I've never had a $216 koozie before. ISO whale koozies!

I don't claim to know everything about the Bruery reserve society but from what I am aware the Bruery membership gets you a certain amount of special releases included in membership price but anything else you want has to be purchased at a 15% discount. So when their beers are 30$+ each you are still paying 25$ per beer on top of membership costs.

I wonder if they will try doing some version of this from their new San Diego spot. It would make them the only SD brewery I know of with an official monthly beer club.

Man, I was totally thinking about dropping the $200,000 to be general of the Warpigs, but that koozie has me thinking otherwise.

It's actually worse than the Bruery pricing structure for the Mikkeller club... They only allot you a certain amount of beers and anything else you want can be purchased at a 0% discount. If we figure volume into the equation, it's probably strikingly similar to the bruery volumes that are allotted for 3X the price.

I've only ever had two Mikkeller offerings (Beer Geek Breakfast and I Hardcore You) and both were very good. Both were also far more expensive and not quite as good as my favorites of either style.

I can't see paying such ridiculously high prices for really good beer when I can find beer just as good locally at a much cheaper price.

So, I am with the OP and I say it is outrageous!

It is not outrageous. A normal beer in Denmark is priced at around 5 USD per bottle. So 10 regular beers would be 50 USD.
Since this will probably include more than just the standard IPA etc. it is not so expensive for us.

On a sidenote to explain on our taxlevels around here. Evil Twin and Omnipollo ha a project that was called "Free beer". It was a was to give away a good pale ale so people would se what you actually get for little more money. It was FREE, no charge or anything at all. In Sweden we had to pay 5 bucks for the "free beer".....

What is outrageous is not the prices, it is our taxlevels etc.

Stop comparing US prices to Europe prices. If $72.00 a month for 6 to 12 beers is outrageous, what about Three Floyds Arctic Panzer Wolf for $35,89 (http://shop.mikkeller.dk/shop/beer/three-floyds-arctic-panzer-wolf/) ? It's not necessarily about those 6 to 12 beers, it's about the opportunity to get some rare stuff in Europe. This beer club is clearly not meant for people outside Europe.

Memberships/subscriptions are incredibly smart if you're a business. Just think of how easy it is to not cancel your Netflix subscription. The accountants have to love the steady income every month.

But as a customer, there's no way I'm doing this or any other beer subscription. I spend an outrageous amount on beer I get to choose. I can't imagine paying a bunch for shipping on beer I don't choose.
