No. The beer does not physically change when in a different glass. But it does change your mood and your perception towards a beer when using different glassware.

I think to a point it does.

Yes absolutely it matters. When your drinking your stouts, dipas or whatever from a kickass snifter or teku glassware and your other less refined friends sitting next to you are drinking their nasty Coors light from a chilled mug, it just puts us in a whole other level. It enhances the experience for everybody. It makes your other friends wonder what are we doing right and what are they doing wrong.

Agreed. The Spieglau IPA glasses really do enhance certain characteristics of hoppy beers. It expands the aroma and flavor a bit (if that makes any sense).

I also have the Spieglau stout glasses as well, which are great with any roasty beer.

Is there anything better in this world, (not involving nakedness), that is better than a high ABV barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout enjoyed from a wide bowled snifter that can be held in the palm for swirling and warming and smelling and tasting and coddling and .......

What would you think seeing a person drinking a good red wine from the bottle? Glass does matter. I have an extensive beer glass collection and use most of them. I've been in restaurants and ordered a quality brew when the waitress asked, "Do you want glass"?

My collection is also extensive. I'd like to see a photo of your collection and perhaps a trade may be possible because I have duplicates of a few types.

The glassware improves my experience of the beer. It makes the beer look more presentable, and hence I myself enjoy my time with each beer that much more.. call me a weirdo if you want

Glassware and beer temp are crucial. I own a lot of different beer style glasses. The Spiegelau IPA glass greatly enhances IPA drinking. I recently bought a Gordon Scotch Ale glass ( Thistle) which I highly recommend.

A lot of beer geeks drink craft beers in snifters- great glass.

Brooklyn Beer Company has a lot of good beer glasses- I have their snifter, Weisse, Oktoberfest, and Brewhouse glasses.

Absolutely and I prefer a snifter. The only time I don't drink out of a snifter at home is if they are all in the dishwasher. I only have two. I need to get more.

I don't think so, I have a ton of glasses and I buy what I happen to like based on looks, but a great beer is still great even if it comes from a red solo.

I pour all my IPAs into an empty Heady Topper can since that is apparently the best way to experience them.

I'll side with yes-- it does matter. Certain shapes are specifically meant for certain tasting experiences not just with beer, but with other beverages in general. Is it fun to play with styles and see where it can take you? Absolutely. Experimenting with different glasses (or lack there in off... right out of the original container) is something I'll do once I properly taste a beer the way it is recommended a few times. Usually I find though the recommended glass is the right one for the beer, but sometimes you do get a surprise flavor note that you otherwise didn't really get in an other glass.

I don't think so, at least to a point. Drinking straight from a can and bottle (or worse, a frozen glass/mug) definitely changes things. However as long as you're drinking from a clean glass I don't think it matters as much as some people do. I have probably 75 glasses ranging from Speigelau chalices and Belgian globes to Rastal mugs and IKEA shaker pints.
If someone offered me a 12oz of Cantillon in a shaker vs. 10oz in the "right" glass I'd take the shaker every single time.

Glass as opposed to out of the bottle matters to me. As for what specific glass? That doesn't matter as much. I pretty grab a shaker pint for most brews (although, if I'm drinking a Heff, I'll always use a heff glass. Not sure why that beer, more than the others commands my attention, ha).

Well, one of the more popular Cantillon glasses is not too far from a shaker pint shape:

Beer in the proper glassware lets you experience it in all its glory. You can see it as it's poured into the glass, you can watch it's frothy white head form, you can see the rush of tiny bubbles extend to it's surface, you can inhale it's fragrance in all it's glory, and then finally take that sweet sip.
