For me at least. A good example is my purchase from tonight. I could've got a sixer of perfectly good craft beer for $13.49 but instead I decided to pay for $24.95 for six of St. Bernardus. Is St. Bernardus better beer? Maybe.

Pub prices are farther out of hand in recent years than retail bottle offerings of non-rare stuff. Bottle shop prices have a ways to go before I would be similarly shocked by how much I'm spending.

That's why I tend to moderate myself quite heavily when at an establishment that offers craft beer. I recall an evening last year where I went out to eat and ended up spending near a hundred dollars. Albeit I had a steak that was around $30 but the beer I had added a little over $60 to my bill. Quite ridiculous if you ask me. I wasn't even drunk afterward for crying out loud!

WHY?!? I don't think I'd pay $228 a case for anything let alone KBS.

That's what I need to learn! It kind of hurts when I drop a bunch of money on beer but you're absolutely right... nobody is making us do it :grinning:

Eh perhaps. I've had a lot of BA stouts at a much cheaper price point that blow it out of the water.

That's about the normal price here in the Central PA area.

I believe you can blame the overall craft beer craze. Retailers are going to push the envelope on what they can charge for what they believe are highly sought after and/or scarce beers. This past December, I paid $19 for a bottle of 2014 The Abyss at a local market only to find it readily available at much lower prices elsewhere. I thought it was going to be hard to find at the time (as in the past) and was willing to pay for it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

I don't know. I look at beer like any other luxury item- wine, fancy threads, vacations, etc... You don't buy it because it's a good deal, you buy it because it's (hopefully) awesome. You don't need it, you want it. If you want it bad enough, you pay whatever it costs.

It's all relative. You can get some of the best beers in the world for under $1.00 an ounce. Some of best wines, champagnes and liquors will run you $5 an ounce and up.

Kind of a broad brush, Eclipse makes many different brews. The White wax EC 20 is a tremendous stout, as good or better than any I've ever had, it's worth $30. They are pricy, they are all good, but $30 is a stiff price for most I'd agree.

35 for a bottle of BB Black Maple at a local bottle shop. 12 at the brewery. WTF!

    Cascade anything.

Don't get me wrong. They pump out fine sours, but nothing I'll buy twice.

$30-$50 for above average sours doesn't make much sense to me.
