So i'm going to a wedding today and I wan't to bring something (maybe 2) to drink so I don't have to succumb to the weddings choices. What do you guys thing would be a good wedding beer? Obviously I don't want to get trashed but a nice sipper would be good. But on the other side of things a few nice IPA's might be a good thing too. I guess i would share a little with someone I know appreciates craft beer. What do you guys think?

Is this a formal or semi-formal wedding? either way seems like it would be in poor taste to BYOB.

Its a formal wedding but it's one of my best friend's and it's gonna be mostly younger south side chicago Irish people so that won't be a problem. I'm sure nobody would think it's poor taste. We aren't trash but we aren't upity. Just normal peeps.

You will most certainly come off as a beer douche IMO.

These are all my good friends and I'm sure some will have some stuff too. I think the peeps drinking Miller lite would be the beer douches

Agree with this 100%. You wouldn't bring your own food to the wedding, so why is it ok to bring your own beer? If you want to BYO, that's what the pre and after parties are for. Sometimes you just gotta suck it up for a few hours if the options are crappy. After all, you're not paying for it, right?

"Hey friend, thanks for spending a shitload of money on a bar for us...I'm just gonna go ahead and bring my own booze with me though."

No one's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to drink something you don't like. Really, truly, utter despise every single beer option available at the wedding? Try wine. Try liquor. Or try....*gasp*....not having alcohol!

I doubt you can bring your own alcohol to a wedding hall.

If there is no "good" beer, This is why there is wine, whiskey and mixed drinks.

Fun Fact- I went to a wedding this past September and it was an open bar (better be) I drank, no shit, 15 Jai Alais and acted like a BAFOON..but Jai Alai was free which was fun for me because nobody else was interested.

Not drinking at a best friend's wedding? You must be joking. Really though, you're taking this too far.

2015 Parabola would be a great beer to sip on all night if that's all you're looking to drink. I personally would go with something lighter such as a solid pale ales and a nice sour to share with some folks.

So here is what bringing your own beer says to a family that has spent probably a year planning an event they think is going to be really nice and cost a boat load of money...."I am such a beer douche that I'm sure you wouldn't pick a beer that would meet my high BA standards, and I can't possibly go 4 hours without a craft beer, so I've brought my own. Did I mention I'm on BA?"

I really don't like most beers at weddings. I've seen people have their own in coolers in their car and fill it when they stop out for a smoke. People brought their beer of choice to my wedding and I had no problem with it at all. It doesn't change the price if they drink the from my wedding or not. Lot of mad butthurt morning people here. This isn't disrespectful. If it was someone you didn't really know Ya of course. I explained it's not like that. I'm not trying to show off. Some trolls here.

Seems like none of these guys have been to a shanty Irish wedding. I would start with Nugget Nectar before the reception an bring the Parabola to the party.

Totally agree. My group of friends would care less if I brought a nice bottle to their weddings and vice versa. They would most likely have a pour. We don't frown upon insignificant things such as that. I mean it's a wedding, celebrate, drink what you like and have a good time. If it's not a close group of friends/family, then yea, leave the craft at home.

Just drink some liquor at the bar, and craft beer before/after. Poor taste to bring it unless it's a request of the bride and groom and they're going to enjoy it with you

I don't think this going how the OP thought it would go
No you are not. But you are for calling the people that want to drink Miller Lite douches.

My wife and I got married last year (tomorrow is my first anniversary!) and we decided to put a 2013 BCBS in the kiddush cup instead of the usual wine or grape juice. She is Jewish and I am Catholic and we had a non religious ceremony but we figured out a nice way to incorporate a small bit of her religion with our love of good beer into the ceremony.
