Yeah I actually misunderstood the description at first and was expecting "White Oak with cacao and vanilla" which sounds probably gross. But "just the good parts of white oak with cacao and vanilla" sounds a lot better.

Either way I can just open one with you.

    Exact. Same. Thing.

Really stoked now that I actually understand what this is! :grinning:

What is the precise difference between white oak and white oak sap? Just blended vs unblended?

White Oak is a blend of a bourbon -bal aged wheat wine (White Oak Sap) and a Belgian strong pale ale.

White Oak is a blended beer - 50% wheat wine aged in Bourbon barrels (we call it "White Oak Sap"), and 50% Mischief (our Golden Strong Ale).
White Oak Sap will be the sole base beer for White Chocolate.

Edit: beaten to the punch by MrFootstones

i'll be the one to break it to you as i've come to grips with it myself. the mystery beer is NOT rare and will likely have little pull as trade bait. sorry. focus on the grey monday.

edit - and i think last year the mystery beer was ISO:FT.

I was actually hoping to get just White Oak Sap but this White Chocolate will do as well.

Are you basing this off the fact that every RS member can buy 6? Even with the ability to buy 6, if this doesn't hit distribution (which is what you may be hinting at?), I don't see why this wouldn't be enticing to others in terms of trade. Clearly, it's not as 'rare' as Grey Monday, but that doesn't mean it's not desirable on it's own.

Just curious why you put it the way you put it...that's all.

    Edit:

P.s. If the 'mystery' beer offered to RS society did hit distro, I'd be a little disappointed. I couldn't fault Patrick & Co. for making that decision, but it would, similar to 100% Fruet seeing full distribution, make the RS feel a whole lot less special.

i imagine not everyone will buy their full allocation, so the reserve society equivalent of goandpickitupformebro will kick in.

i think it's a mistake to join the rs expecting wales... rather, it's preferential access with a few treats that makes it worthwhile.

Because with 7 bottles each and like 1,350 members there are nearly 10k bottles. That's not exactly rare. I wouldn't expect it to trade all that well, although it should 1:1 with KH, maybe.

you're contradicting yourself. king henry is wales. the rarest shelf beer distributed across multiple states since dave.

BT 2011 was the same but I still traded a lot of my bottles for some really good stuff...granted this doesn't have the same rep as BT but if your argument is just bottle count then that analogy works.

Rep Shmep. It has Chocolate in the name! Sexual Chocolate is kind of an average beer, but people go nuts over it because of the name.

I think Overlord should let us know how many BTU's this is worth.

Fair enough - but even at 11-12K bottles, KH is quite difficult to trade for these days (beaten to the punch, I know).

And without trying to seem to completely naive, King Henry was the first beer I thought of when I read the description. Bourbon barreled, Coconut, Caramel, Vanilla, Cocoa nibs....Mmmmm.

Who'll be the first to call it 'underattenuated'?

I split my allocations with 2 others! (At least I tell myself that while drowning in a pool of Black Tuesday...)

The whole trading community runs on hype, so if we all start calling White Chocolate the next King Henry, it will be so.
