I have thought about this question for a while: what is your most respected brewery? This doesn’t necessarily mean your favorite brewery or the brewery that makes your favorite beer; it means the brewery that you respect most. This respect can come from the passion they put into their beer, the friendliness of the staff, the effort for quality ingredients, etc.. etc… etc..

Limit your response to one place only and explain why (it doesn’t have to even be popular just as long as it means something to you!).

NEBCO for how they handle themselves with stuff like the gandhi bot fiasco (intelligently). Plus constantly improving beer, excellent customer service and really just awesome people.

Sierra Nevada honorable mention. Clown Shoes guy is very cool too, and they give beer nerds what they want.

Honestly theres tons of breweries i respect just as much as i like their beer. Good little subculture these days.

Love what Stone us doing introducing new hoppy stuff, They're not sitting on their hands. Love HF, he does what he loves at his pace on his level, not driven to supply the free world. Makes all world class brews too, really a dynamic innovative brewmaster.

    Weihenstephan.

Oldest continually functioning brewery in the world; seat of the world's best brewing university; proprietor of the world's most widely used lager yeasts; and maker of world-class examples of multiple styles.

Wichita Brewing Company. They brew amazing beer, and are expanding. They just bought Tallgrass Brewing's old equipment as Tallgrass is expanding. WBC is going to open a production line and put beer on the shelves in the local community. I'm excited about this. It's watching a small-time brewery expand, and I love it, because I love their beer, and their food. Hopperoni pizza with hop flakes ...

Cigar City, mainly for how they handled the Huna Day fiasco last year. Class-act business.

de Garde, for keeping it real with their bottle prices. Awesome berliner bombers for $4? Sign me up!

I have a much more opinionated "least respected" list, but that's another discussion...

    Lagunitas.

Produce great beers, everything they bottle is affordable, they refuse to take government handouts, and are aggressively expanding without diluting their product or culture.

There will always be small brewers making better beer, but brewers like Lagunitas are what truly tip the needle away from BMC.

How about suing because they think they can copyright IPA? That knocked them down a few pegs for me.
