Another vote for Weihenstephan. They have been doing it for a while and make unbelievably clean and tasty classic beers.

Boston Beer Company. In conjunction with Sierra Nevada, they paved the way for the stuff I now enjoy. Second, last time I checked, they had good business practices, treat their employees well, and helped breweries ruined by Sandy (tell me if I'm wrong- I don't want to have bad intel).

I'm going to throw some love at New Belgium here. Their employees are friendly helpful folks, they're an environmentally conscious company with solid business practices, and they make good, reasonably priced, widely available beer across all their product lines.

Sierra Nevada - Often overlooked by many as they pay attention to breweries who love pushing things to the extremes just to be different (not that those results necessarily are bad mind you), but Sierra Nevada just keeps brewing great beer - year after year after year after year.

I'm enjoying a Beer Camp Hoppy Lager right now - also enjoying listening to Phish. TGIF everyone.

Oh jesus, its trademark law. If something is remotely close to your trademark you have to defend it, otherwise your trademark can potentially be stripped. Hasn't this been covered ad nauseam?

Overall, probably Great Lakes. All of their beers are at least above average (with many terrific ones) in any style. And all are reasonably priced.

Plus, they respect lagers. Now if they would just bring back The Wright Pils...

    Honorable Mention: Carton

So far a great response! What I have enjoyed is seeing how each person lists a different brewery (or sometimes the same) with a different reason. That illustrates how diverse and talented the brewing scene has become. Personally, I have a hard time narrowing it down to a single brewery, but I think I would have to go with DFH. I respect them based on the fact they have been trying crazy stuff and pushing the limit for years. While a lot of times their beers may flop, they keep going at it! That relentlessness and true passion gets my vote.

Keep the responses coming! I enjoy reading them, plus there is no right or wrong answer!

The brewery that got the most respect from me closed around 1972 or so (and they would still top my list if they were around today).

Of the breweries operating today, I'd pick Sierra Nevada above all others.
(but an honorable mention goes to Yuengling, for staying family owned for 186 years and counting ...and especially for pulling off such a phenomenal comeback and growth after nearly closing their doors in the 1970s).
