I would like to have some ice cold bock beer.
It's only available for a short time each year.
With its deep brown color and distinctive taste,
the stuff is too good to drink in haste.
We can get it as the winter is going away.
Fill up some mugs, and put them on a tray.
This early spring treat is available today.

I'm not sure if it is too early (it is) or Navin and I had too much last night (we did), but he is still out of it. I don't have much choice. I have to take my middle son to the District Science Fair today. Damn overachiever. Anyway, I will be checking in on all of you to see how it's going, but will not rejoin you until this evening. I don't think I can be sharing pics of my bock around a bunch of junior high kids. Bock on!

Good morning BA. I got all my Bocks lined up :grinning:

2009 bottling. WOW. Big raisin, plum, fig, caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, and a bit of alcohol spiciness. This is super smooth sipping with no booziness at all. Outstanding! Very impressed with the head retention this time as well. Glad I chose the 2009 from the cellar, so I can let my 2006 get some more time in. I know of a few stores that have older vintages lingering on the shelves so I am going to make an effort to grab some for sure.

Always fantastic. Nice caramel, toffee, molasses, brown bread, nutty, light chocolate malt sweetness; with some moderate apple/plum fruitiness. Super balanced and great complexity all around.

This is mind blowing every time, I really need to buy it more often. Caramel, toffee, banana, clove, raisin, plum, toast, brown bread, and a peppery spicy finish. Fantastic malt and yeast flavor balance.

    Cheers!

One Bock…. Two Bock…. Three Bock, Ah Ah Ahh…..

    Thanks for the intro Count.

It literally says “BOCK” on the bottle, so I hope the judges will allow it, even if Jim Koch took some privileges with the use of the term with this thing.

This little blue bottle has to be about 20 years old. It dates back to a period of time before I was of legal drinking age. Back in the early-to-mid 90’s, a buddy and I decided to branch out from Natty Light and Beast. We were heavy into Pete’s Wicked, Boston Lager, Tuppers, Dundee Honey Brown, etc. We found that Sam Adams provided a wide variety of different styles to try. We loved Double Bock. We heard there was such a thing as Triple Bock and assumed it was just a stronger version of the same style. We bought three bottles – one to drink and one each to save.

First, the bottles were tiny and expensive. Second, they had a cork? Third, we poured it out and instead of beer, we had some sort of soy sauce or a thin molasses. Not at all what we were expecting. Just awful. Who knew?

Since then, this thing has traveled from my parents house, through at least a couple of apartments, and 2 different houses. Each time, it was either left on a shelf in the room or buried in a box. Certainly not “cellared”.

There is some sort of smegma (don’t google it) around the cork and the neck of the bottle. No carbonation. Has a faint red to cola colored appearance – leaves a nasty brown lacing around the glass. Wow, the smell is definitely soy sauce. Can’t really get past it. The taste starts with an extremely sugary sweet or syrupy taste – just a mess – and then it goes sort of sour and sticky. The aftertaste actually gets to a stout.

Ugh. More smegma in the bottom of the bottle and clung to the side where it laid on it’s side for a while. There is actually a coating on the inside of the glass – a “crust” – like something you’d scrape off the bottom of a boat.

What the hell. It can’t kill me, right? Right? Seriously, could this kill me?

Up next will be the 1998 bottle of Budweiser!

We gather here today, the 21st day of the 3rd month in the year of the goat (no shit) to raise a vessel and toast a beloved, well known friend...The Bock!

On this day, the first full day of spring, we put our differences aside and join together as one beating heart...a union of kinship, brotherhood and breweriana!

With my pokal (pilsner glass) held high, join me in celebration of our coalition, our solidarity, our fellowship!

Long Live The BOCK!!! Long Live The BOCK!!! Long Live The BOCK!!!
