On April 20th I am running the Boston Marathon in honor of Martin Richard who died in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. I’ve known the Richard family since moving to Dorchester, MA in 2000 and our families have become close friends over the years. Martin was a special kid in so many ways and for those lucky enough to know him, we miss him deeply.

I have the privilege and honor of being selected to run for Team MR8 and raising money for The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation (http://www.teammr8.org/). Martin’s parents, Bill and Denise, have been incredibly positive in dealing with this tragedy and it’s through this positive energy that I know they will do terrific things through the foundation. Below is its mission:

We established The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation to honor our son Martin's message of peace, a message that went global in the days after he was tragically taken from us while we were all cheering on runners at the Boston Marathon. While the pain of that day will forever be with us, our hope is that this special event becomes a source of strength for our family and a means to make a difference in the world. The mission of our foundation is “to honor Martin's message of ‘No more hurting people – peace’ by investing in education, athletics and community.”

The foundation has already been part of some incredible things. Two examples are:
    • Funding to establish Boston’s first Little League Challengers’ Division, which allows boys and girls with physical and cognitive challenges to enjoy the game of baseball. Here is a short clip that can tell the story better than I can.
    • Making a grant to Quincy, MA based Adaptive Sports New England
Follow the simple instructions below to donate to Team MR8 and be entered in the raffle.

Every $10 you donate gets you an entry (or three entries for $25) in the drawing for the box(s) available. Once the total donations for the raffle hits $500, the second box is up for grabs. You are able to win more than one box if you have more than one entry. I’m going to enter the entries using randompicker.com and use the same site to pick the winners.

Here are directions for donating and entering the raffle which will be held on April 11th.

    Go to the following link:http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/SteveDatish/bostonmarathon2015
    Click the Donate Button.
Fill in the form. Every $10 you donate grants you one entry or three entries for $25.
IMPORTANT: In the field "Leave a comment with your donation", you must enter the word “Raffle” and your BA Name (example: Raffle – GoOSU) so that I know your donation is for this raffle.

Wow!! After less than a full week the donations are at $1,015!! Thank you to everyone who has donated. It means so much to me and the Richard family. If the chance to win some Heady Topper, Tree House, etc. isn't enough, watch this 2 minute YouTube video on Martin and the Richard family and you'll understand why I'm running for the MR8 Foundation. Thanks again and let's keep the momentum going. -Steve

Donated what I could for now. It's that time of year where I regret not signing up for Boston. Hope it's a blast.

I think @RyanMcFly1985 will be running the Boston Marathon as well!!! Good luck to all the runners.

So for my box I don't have specifics but it will include fresh local ipas and some Jackie O's. I'll coordinate with the winner to see what they like and send out a solid box. Sorry I don't have more details at this time.
