Just looking at the beer list online for Moeder Lambic, some pretty expensive bottles in there. Just curious as to how many here have, or would, pay around 100-200 euros for a single bottle? Primarily seems like vintage 3F, such as Millenium, are commanding the highest price.
I don't think the beer list on internet is up to date... Last time i went there the most exclusive geuze on the menu where millennium geuze 200€ / armand seasons 50€ each / 3F schaersbeekse kriek 25€ I don't know if they have any big beers not listed on the menu?
Absolutely. People over here were dropping $200-250 for the new Framboos that just hit without thinking twice. It was what, 25€ when sold 2 weeks ago? They would absolutely do the same for 3F Millennium.
With so many amazing bottles on the list, I just can't fathom why someone would spend so much on one bottle. But maybe that's just me!
Good question. They must sell the occasional one or wouldn't bother, or else mainly hoarded for when friends/VIPs visit. It reminds me of seeing Hommage at one of the wholesalers for a "price on demand" of 100 euros -- what looked like the same few dusty bottles as months past. I don't think I've paid more than 30 euros or so for some Cantillon with serious age on it.
Aside from Kulminator and Moeder, I don't have a lot of experience with (or at least remember) the "cellar" bottle list of bars in Belgium. Are such markups relatively common for the more "uncommon" bottles? In the US, it's not uncommon to see 100% markup on bottles you can find on the shelf at the store.
I think most everything is marked up about that much. Cellared stuff may actually be slightly less, relative to a store price. I don't really know because it's rarer to find shops selling aged stuff than it is bars. But generally, most of our beer here is in the 1.5-3 euros range in a store, and 3-5 in a bar.
